Currently showing at the Flat Gallery in Milan is a solo from Sweden-based artist Michael Johansson entitled Still Lifes. On view through February 24th, the exhibition features a continuation of the conceptual artist’s three-dimensional work that deals with ideas of space and form. The re-purposing of everyday objects into perfect cubes (among other sculptural installations) arranged by different hues strikes a visually intriguing balance throughout the showspace. Look for upcoming shows at the Konsthallen Trollhättan in Sweden and Vigeland-museet in Norway. Via Designboom.

Back in November, we stopped by Galleria Patricia Armocida in Milan, to check out shows by two fresh, talented artists – Vietnam native Diem Chau, and Kappao from Korea. The mutual thing about both artists is the fact that they use very delicate and fragile materials, that through their meticulous patient process, are turned into delicate beautiful pieces of art. Kappao’s signature material is ceramics, but also, clay, wood, plaster, ropes, fabric, and other “poor materials” that she adds to her sculptures that both have […]

After a impressive showing in Los Angeles with some his best work of recent times, Anthony Lister (interviewed) headed to Italy for an exhibition at Avantgarden. Not only did he import some of the ballerina imagery that he has been working on of late to Milan for his first solo show there, a thugged out dancer showed up for a performance. Other shenanigans including more evidence of the Aussie artist’s involvement with a faux-kidnapping club, a skeleton with laser eyes, as well as indoor & outdoor […]

Following his successful show last year at France’s Magda Danysz (covered), Mike Giant returned to the EU to open his “Welcome to Frisco” show last Thursday night at Milan’s Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea. Featuring his trademark clean lines and tattooed subjects, Giant’s showing looks to be a great introduction to the San Francisco aesthetic and culture for the Milanese people.
