Streets: Freedom Park (Berlin)

Artists, what would you give to paint on a piece of history? That’s exactly what happened recently in Germany as artists like Nunca, Miss Van, and McBess were asked to paint on remnants of the Berlin Wall like Chor Boogie did last year for the Stroke.03 Art Fair. This time, the pieces were organized together into a Freedom Park event organized by Dudes Factory and Lux Pop Art Group. More photos after the jump…

Previews: Safewalls x Cirque du Soleil @ Trifecta Gallery

In the past, many of you must have enjoyed performances by Cirque du Soleil and more recently, the limited edition artist collaborations (here, here & here) presented to you by our friends at Safewalls. Now, it’s time to take the show on the road as the Safewalls x Cirque du Soleil artwork will travel to Las Vegas where the current productions of KA and Zumanity are running in the City of Sin where four new original artworks were created for the Vegas based productions by Frank […]

Openings: Miss Van – “Bailarinas” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Last Thursday, the Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York was the site of French-born and Barcelona-based Miss Van’s new body of work. One of the pioneers for women street artists in a male dominated genre, the delicate yet strong characters that she paints have always made an impression with their uninhibited sexuality and freedom of expression.  For this show Bailarinas, her masked sensual and sultry “poupee” characters in various states of undress seem to have taken on the role of provocative dancers. Take a look at some […]

Preview: Miss Van – “Bailarinas” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Opening on this Thursday night, May 26th will be Bailarinas at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery. As you can infer from the title of the show, this new body of work from Miss Van will feature her masked and costumed poupees dressed as ballerinas. This will be her first show in six years in New York, so fans of the French-born, Barcelona-based artist who first made her name in the streets best make their way over lest they have to wait another six years for her […]

Releases: Safewalls x Cirque du Soleil Prints

Our friends at the Safewalls x Cirque du Soleil project have been celebrating the art of the circus poster since late last year, commissioning Cirque-inspired pieces by the likes of Ricardo Cavolo, El Mac, Jon Burgerman, Jason Limon, Shag, Sweet Toof and Glenn Anderson with upcoming works by Tara McPherson, Ron English, Travis Louie and Miss Van. For each city that Cirque du Soleil performs in, Safewalls commissions three artists to create a piece, which is then printed into a regular edition of 300 prints and […]

Showing: Miss Van – “Twinkles” @ Magda Danysz (Paris)

Miss Van, one of the feminine figureheads of street art, recently returned to her native France for her first solo showing there in three years.  The exhibition, entitled Twinkles, at the Parisian branch of Magda Danysz featured paintings and drawings of her signature enticing “poupes” in various states of undress and costume wearing – with increasingly darker overtones. The collection of work is certainly worth a look if you are in Paris, although many of the paintings have been seen already in a similarly named […]

Highlights: Recommended openings for March 17th-19th

The year is going by fast – it’s already the middle of March. As usual, there are many interesting art openings to get out to this weekend including a show from Miss Van in France. Magda Danysz Gallery will be hosting Twinkles, a new body of work from the French street artist who hasn’t shown in her home country in a while. Make sure you take a look at more studio shots from our friends over at Hi-Fructose. More recommended shows after the jump…

Showing: “Relationships” @ Gallery Christoffer Egelund

One of our astute readers in Copenhagen, Henrik Haven, recently took some pictures for us of the “Relationships” group show currently showing at Gallery Christoffer Egelund. The exhibition features three artists that we like – Tim Biskup, Miss Van, and Victor Castillo – as well as a fourth artists we weren’t familiar with – Michael Swaney. The exhibition nicely hung against the clean backdrop and spacious venue looking like something that should not be missed if you are in the area.  More pics after the […]
