Streets: Aryz // Jidar Festival (Morocco)

Recently in Rabat, Aryz had the opportunity to return to Morocco for another mural and to drink “avocado juice.” Painted on the side of a six story building, the beautiful new piece features one of the Spanish artist’s reoccurring still life images. Invited in by the good people of the Jidar Festival, he left a wall covered in his recognizable smooth style and pastel palette that the locals will not soon forget. Discuss Aryz here.

After a first look at the latest Igloo Hong funded project from David Choe (featured) in Morocco, we now have some more photos to share with you from the the trip. Granted creative freedom, El Mac, Andrew Hem, Mars-1, Aaron Horkey, and DVS-1 all did their best work getting up on whatever walls they could find, whether it be solo or with a collaborative effort. After a look at what Saner painted for the Jidar Urban Art Festival in Morocco, we now turn our attention to the contribution by DEIH. The wall in Rabat was transformed by the Spanish street artist in his typical comic-inspired style and can be found in in Jacob Mansoir for those in the area. Last month, David Choe (featured) led a group of artists into the wilds of Morocco on another Igloo Hong funded project (also see Cambodia). Included on the trip to Marrakech were repeat attendees El Mac & Andrew Hem along with newcomers Mars-1, Aaron Horkey, and DVS-1. Streets: Saner (Morocco)

Along with with 23 other artisst, Saner was recently in Rabat, participating in the local Jidar Urban Art Festival. During his visit, the Mexican artist painted a vibrant figurative mural on the streets of Morocco’s capital. Known for works that are strongly inspired by the Latin and South American tradition and history, Saner modified one of his familiar characters to fit the new environment. After painting the impressive Kaos Temple few months ago in Spain (covered), Okuda San Miguel recently got an opportunity to paint another place of worship, with the result being pretty impressive. Located in Youssoufia, Morocco, the church was completely covered with the imagery of the prolific Spanish artist for the Street Art Caravane event. The finished work titled 11 Mirages to the Freedom consists of 11 main characters that are incorporated in the architectural sections of the building itself. Releases: Hendrik Beikirch – “Tracing Morocco” Book

The Montresso Foundation recently released a publication that presents a collaboration with Hendrik Beikirch aka ECB entitled Tracing Morocco. This project included an artistic residency at Jardin Rouge a dozen times since June 2014 during which he created 22 portraits that were showin in Zurich, Cologne, Tolouse, Völklinger and finally at the official book launch in Marrakesh in December of 2015. On March 27, David Bloch Gallery in Marrakech will continue their program of introducing relevant international urban artists to the Morroco with a solo exhibition OFF/GRID by Augustine Kofie (featured). Streets: Usugrow (Marrakech)

Last month, the facade of the well known Cafe Des Epices in Marrakech, Morocco was painted over with the street calligraphy of Usugrow. Curated by Valerie Liais du Rocher of Studio IWA with support from Upper Playground, the Japanese artist left his mark in the heart of the Medina at in Rahba Kedima spice square covering one side of the rooftop structure with his signature script.
