Releases: “OUTSIDE THE LINES” Coloring Book @ MOCA

Last week, the MOCA in Los Angeles held a release party for OUTSIDE THE LINES: An Artists’ Coloring Book for Giant Imaginations, a publication curated by Souris Hong-Porretta (seen directly below). Many of the animators, cartoonists, fine artists, graphic artists, illustrators, musicians, outsider artists, photographers, street artists, and video game artists made it out to the event to interact with fans and sign copies. Studio Visits: Faile @ Dallas Contemporary

The anticipation has been building in the art community on Faile’s upcoming exhibition at the Dallas Contemporary. Previews: “Risqué {dirty little pictures}” @ Long Beach Museum of Art

On Thursday night, September 19th, the Long Beach Museum of Art will host the opening of a new group exhibition entitled Risqué {dirty little pictures}. Curated by Nathan Spoor and Jeff McMillan, the works from the show will be displayed on the museum’s second-floor Kilsby Gallery and will include 40 8 x 10″ paintings from 40 artists including Audrey Kawasaki (seen above), Ron English, Eric White, Glenn Barr, Brendan Monroe, Aron Wiesenfeld, and more. Upcoming / Streets: JR @ Contemporary Art Center (Cincinnati)

Along with a show coming up in London, French “photograffeur” JR (interviewed) also will be opening a solo museum exhibition soon at the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati. The show officially opens on September 21 (more details on the schedule and associated activities here) and will feature wheatpasted images, photography, video projections, sculpture, as well as the famous mobile phone booth which has been spreading the street artist’s Inside Out love. American artist David Choe (featured) has spent the last several weeks working on his exhibition opening August 17th at the Museo Universitario del Chopo. This is his first big solo show after four years of “falling deep into addiction, heartbreak, rejoicing, discovery, recovery, hallucinogenics, worship and ignorant idiotic prophecies,” so there is a lot he wanted to create and share.
