Yesterday, AM attended the opening of Yoshitomo Nara’s epic retrospective at New York’s Asia Society. With anticipation building since attending his “Open Studio” session a few weeks prior, we didn’t know what more to expect from Nara and YNG/graf aside from the artwork being created by the artist and the cool construction of the “Home” installation. Yoshitomo Nara Statues Up in New York

Over the weekend, New York was gifted two new sculptural installations from Yoshitomo Nara, placed in conjunction with his retrospective at the Asia Society, set to open on September 9th. The pair of 12-foot-high fiberglass dogs are on the Upper East Side (one across from the entrance to the Asia Society and the other just in front of the Park Avenue Armory) and will stand guard throughout the exhibition set to run until the beginning of next year. Preview: Yoshitomo Nara Retrospective @ Asia Society

AM stopped by again at the Park Avenue Armory to check up on the progress of Yoshitomo Nara and YNG/graf during this week’s “Open Studio” session. Preview/Set Up: Yoshitomo Nara & YNG @ Park Avenue Armory for Asia Society Retrospective

AM stopped by the opening of Yoshitomo Nara & design firm graf/YNG’s “Open Studio” at the Park Avenue Armory. Using the massive Armory venue as a central staging ground, the YNG crew hit the ground running; creating a modular structure/installation designed to be carted up Park Ave in the upcoming week for the retrospective opening September 9th at the Asia Society. Books: Yoshitomo Nara – “Nobody’s Fool” Box Set

Remember when we mentioned that Yoshitomo Nara will be unveiling a pair of statues on the Upper East Side and his retrospective at the Asia Society?
