Last night at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Sanrio opened the doors to a tremendous 50th Anniversary celebration featuring carnival games, costumed characters, special food booths, limited edition event products from the company, and of course – a themed art group show (curated by JAPAN LA). What do you get when you mix Natalia Fabia’s (interviewed) “Hooker DreamEscape” imagery with Lolita fashion, Domo-kun, kaiju, geishas and other Japanese cultural phenomena? The answer is her stunning new body of work – “Fashionable Aftertaste Without End”. The “East meets West” opening party on Saturday night at Corey Helford Gallery featured a 450 pound specialty chandelier, plenty of appropriately costumed guests, and of course incredibly detailed paintings full of life, color, and Kawaii.
