Upcoming: Faile – “Les BALLETS de FAILE” @ Lincoln Center (Part II)

Tonight (May 29th) marks the return of Faile’s Les BALLETS de FAILE to the New York City Ballet at the Lincoln Center with all new works on display. In place of the epic tower installation for the first showing (covered) will be a series of prayer wheels from the Brooklyn duo as well as new paintings. If you weren’t lucky enough to snag some tickets to the performances, the exhibition is still open to the public (details here). Take a look at some preview images below… Discuss Faile here.

Preview: “Zombie” @ Last Rites Gallery

Tomorrow night (May 25th), the Zombie group exhibition will be opening at the Last Rites Gallery in New York. Featuring a roster hand-selected by Travis Louie to give their artistic interpretation of the undead, the show is sure to be an interest among fans of these artists. Here we have more preview images of pieces that are destined for the show that will include paintings, drawings, and sculptural pieces including the one seen above (cropped) from Chris Seamon. During Frieze Week, Pace Gallery held the much anticipated opening for Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara. The solo exhibition is Nara’s first with the blue chip gallery since joining its esteemed roster in 2011. Preview: Souther Salazar – “Souvenirs” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Tonight (May 18th) at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery, Souther Salazar will be presenting his fourth solo with the gallery entitled Souvenirs. The show will feature a selection new paintings, drawings, sculptures and installations by the Portland-based artist inspired by the Trading Tortoise, his recent collaboration with his wife, Monica Choy. Tomorrow night (May 18th) in New York, Andy Kehoe returns for his third solo show with Jonathan LeVine Gallery with new works collectively entitled Luminous Reverie. Continuing a new process (sculpted elements mixed in with poured resin and paint) first revealed to us during a show in Los Angeles last year (covered), the Pittsburgh-based painter has given his human-animal hybrid figures and forested backgrounds new life. Brooklyn-based art duo The Yok and Sheryo are opening their solo exhibition at Krause Gallery in NYC tonight. Frieze Week NYC ’12: NADA Fair

One of the art fairs that has hitched its wagon to Frieze is that of the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA). This year’s NADA fair moved to a new spacious location on Manhattan’s Lower East Side and presented a nice range of emerging and mid-career artists. Frieze Week NYC ’13: Frieze Art Fair – First Look

Frieze returned to New York City this weekend, and again put on an top-notch art fair that challenges the dominance of The Armory Show. Like last year, the event was held on scenic Randall’s Island and featured many of the world’s most respected galleries and artists. We visited the fair multiple times over the weekend, and will post about specific booths that caught our eye. But first, here’s a general overview of some of what we enjoyed from Frieze NYC 2013.

Openings: José Parlá & JR – “Wrinkles of the City, Havana” @ Bryce Wolkowitz

Last week, the Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery in New York hosted the opening of JR and José Parlá’s collaborative showing entitled The Wrinkles of the City, Havana. The joint works were based on the time they spent in Cuba a year ago painting street murals together (covered) as part of JR’s continuing project Wrinkles of the City where he photographs senior citizens and pastes their portraits on the walls of city buildings.
