Austrian street artist and a member of the The Weird Crew from Europe, Nychos, recently spent a few weeks in San Francisco. His temporary residency consisted of working on his solo show at Fifty24SF, painting several murals around the city, and even doing some free tattoo sessions. It’s been a while since our last Streets: World Roundup so it’s time to revive the feature where we share a summary of some recent art from the streets. Austrian street muralist Nychos has made a return to San Francisco after painting a massive wall in the city last year. This time around, he worked on a ground level dissection in Haight-Ashbury (arranged by Wallspace SF) for his fans in the Bay Area, many of whom will be making it out to the opening of his solo show, entitled Street Anatomy, on April 18th at Fifty24SF. A major component of the POW WOW festival in Hawaii is of course the public art that goes up over a week, mostly in the industrial district of Kaka’ako. After recently gifting San Francisco with a new mural, Nychos has headed to the other coast for a showing in New York. Silly Slicesophy will open Friday night (August 9th) in Brooklyn at the Mighty Tanaka. As referred to in the title, the Austrian artist will be taking his knife to classic Disney characters (like Mickey above), and dissecting them in a style he often uses on the streets. Nychos, who only last month hit up the streets of Denmark with multiple works, is on the move again. This time, the Austrian muralist has completed a new piece in San Francisco (with the help of Wallspace SF) entitled Eye of the Tiger featuring his cartoonish dissected style.
