Streets: OG Slick (POW! WOW! Worcester)

Continuing to work with the POW! WOW! family, OG Slick recently finished a wall for this year’s event in Worcester, Massachusetts. The mural features a motif the Los Angeles-based artist has worked on in the past featuring his familiar Micky Mouse hands spray painting a smiley face. We’ll have more from POW! WOW! Last weekend, an expansive collection of paintings, sculptures, and site-specific installations was revealed at BEYOND THE STREETS in Los Angeles (1667 N Main St). Curated by Roger Gastman, the show featured a roster of over 100+ artists working with 40,000+ sq. ft. of industrial indoor and outdoor space spurring them to produce some large and impressive works for the event. POW! WOW! ’17 / Streets: Recap

After showing you some in-progress shots and some sneak peeks of the massive amount of work in progress on the streets of Kakaako, we now have a recap of many of the walls and public interventions that were created for POW! WOW! Hawaii. This year’s event had locations that were more compact and centrally located, leading to a more easily navigated set of murals. Continued good weather made for good painting conditions (albeit a little on the sunnier side) as POW! WOW! Hawaii draws closer to conclusion. POW! WOW! Hawaii ’17 / Showing: Exploring The New Contemporary Movement” @ Honolulu Museum of Art School

Showing in associated POW! WOW! Hawaii through the tomorrow at the Honolulu Museum of Art School is the 4th annual Exploring The New Contemporary Movement group exhibition (see 2016 & 2015 & 2014) curated by Thinkspace. Artists were asked to contribute 12 x 12″ pieces leading to a visually conforming display of works. Rounding things out was a showcase for Shok-1 (seen below) and a Homer Simpson x Banksy parody installation by Oak Oak (seen above). At 10am on Monday, Feb 9th, the mural painting part of POW! WOW! Hawaii 2015 officially begun with a traditional Hawaiian blessing ceremony at the Lana Lane headquarters in Kaka’ako in Honolulu. Along with mural painting that started off today and a museum show with Thinkspace Gallery (covered), one of the central events of POW! WOW! Hawaii is the print exhibition organized in collaboration with 1xRun.com. For their 3rd annual show they scheduled 30+ limited edition print releases featuring most of the artists from this year POW!
