Ryan McGinley Photographs Karlie Kloss For New York Times

Like his previous photography work with Sienna Miller for Vogue and video for Pringle of Scotland, Ryan McGinley has already had several fashion projects under his belt. His latest shoot for the The New York Times is no different as he was enlisted to take photos of model Karlie Kloss for part of their travel series for T Magazine with this particular session set in Nicaragua. After working on a particularly poignant mural in Washingon DC, JR has headed to the Far East to spread his Inside Out love. Going mobile with his giant photo booth in a converted truck, the French photograffeur has been traveling though Japan with his crew and local volunteers, focusing especially in areas hit by the devastating tsunami which still have not completely recovered over on year out. On November 8th, the Carmichael Gallery will be presenting Like Father, Like Son : NYC at a popup space in New York (6 to 8pm, 303 Tenth Ave in Chelsea). French photographer and street activist JR, who was just featured in a video for the new MOCAtv channel, was also recently in Washington, D.C. working on a mural for his Unframed Project where he takes archived images and uses them in a different context. For this particular piece, he brings to light a photo from Ernest Withers taken during the 1968 Memphis sanitation workers strike and pasted it up on the corner of 14th Street and T streets in Washington where the riots exploded right after Martin Luther […]

After simultaneous showings back in May at Team Gallery locations in New York (covered here & here), Ryan McGinley traveled to Japan for a solo at the Tomio Koyama Gallery. The exhibition entitled Reach Out, I’m Right Here (which recently closed), featured more of McGinley’s luminous photographs featuring his work with models interacting with nature as well as live animals from various sanctuaries, zoos, and rescue establishments across the United States. After teasing his fans with updates from the setup of his show in Hong Kong as well as photos of a sweet new mural in the Asian metropolis, JR’s show at Emmanuel Perrotin finally opened last night. The French photograffeur has kindly sent AM shots from the opening of Pattern, where he unveiled his first sculptural creations ever in the form of crumpled photographs, originals featuring his signature eye, as well as a new photobooth for his Inside Out project. With his show opening very soon (September 18th) in Hong Kong, French street artist JR has completed another mural for his Inside Out project. This new long mural was installed on the roof of one of the footpaths of the IFC and can be seen from various viewpoints above the piece. After spending time building an enormous photo booth for Festival Images in Switzerland, JR has moved on to his next project. Pattern will be the French street photograffeur’s first solo in Hong Kong and will open at Emmanuel Perrotin on September 18th.
