Earlier this week, Chinese contemporary artist Liu Bolin continued his Hiding In New York series (previous location) on Greenwich Street at the the Tiles For America site dedicated to 9/11. Last week we first showed you the pics of the prominent Bowery & Houston mural completed by French artist JR. The famed photographer utilized the simple but enlarged image of Native American “DJ 2 Bears”. Of course, no man is an island. JR called in the help from some friends involved in the (Sioux) Standing Rock Nation project in the Dakotas to help finish wheat pasting the location. During the recent Art HK ’11, controversial photographer extraordinaire Terry Richardson presented a body of Asian themed work, aptly dubbed HONG KONG Terry Richardson, with clothing company Diesel. The selection of toned down, while still edgy portraits centered around celebrities native to the city of Hong Kong. A book by the same name, produced in conjunction with Ooi Botos and limited to 1000 copies, offers up Richardson’s entire catalog of photographs taken in Hong Kong during his travels there. Last week at their Central Hong Kong space, Gagosian Gallery opened an exhibition of work from New York-based contemporary artist Richard Prince. Timed perfectly to coincide with Art HK ’11, the exhibition marked the first solo effort in Asia for the famed photographer, painter, and mixed media artist.
