Continuing a string of quality book releases at SFMOMA (see David Choe and Further signings), Mark Ryden spent some time last week meeting and greeting his legions of fans on the occasion of the release of his new book “The Snow Yak Show” from Last Gasp Books (purchase here). Remember when we mentioned that Yoshitomo Nara will be unveiling a pair of statues on the Upper East Side and his retrospective at the Asia Society? Well even better news – a special book boxed set will be released on September 1st to go along with this opening of “Nobody’s Fool”. Mark Ryden will be on hand to sign his latest book at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (Schwab Room: 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm) next week on Thursday, August 12th. The book from Last Gasp Books is a catalog of his “The Snow Yak Show” last year in Japan of which the new body of work took a minimalistic turn in style and palette. Discuss Mark Ryden here. If you haven’t signed up yet for a free subscription to The Art Street Journal, what are you waiting for? There aren’t that many publications out there, especially stateside, that focuses on this type of art. Also, this Saturday, August 7th (7-9pm), there will be release party at Carmichael Gallery for the newest edition (Vol II, Issue I), an expanded format featuring more color, pages, and articles including interviews with Boogie and Escif.

Last week AM visited the SFMOMA to catch the signing of David Choe’s (featured) monograph (previewed) from Chronicle Books. The crowd of fans waited patiently to get some face time with the accomplished artist. David, as usual, took his time greet his loyal Bay Area followers and for a lucky few, even created mini sketches in their books. Check it out after the jump.

AM recently stopped by the Joshua Liner Gallery to check out a copy of Ryan McLennan’s new book “The Cost of Comfort”. Published by Triple Stamp Press, the special edition book is actually a loose-leaf art book that contains 20 specially selected 9″x12″ giclee prints and comes encased in a custom made pine/birch wood box.
