Streets: “Elevate South Broad Mural Projects” (Atlanta)

Last week, artists Hense, Push, Tilt (above), Sever, and Born came together to paint some new walls for the Elevate South Broad Mural Project in Atlanta. Located at South Broad Street between MLK Boulevard and Mitchell Street, the new work beautifies an area that sorely needed some love. Hopefully, we’ll continue to see more of these projects in the future. Discuss Tilt here. Discuss Push here. Photo Credit: Nick Mickolas / Graffuturism.

Openings: PUSH – “In Other Words” @ Known Gallery

Los Angeles-based artist PUSH, who we last saw in Orange County painting a mural during the US Open of Surfing, opened a show at the Known Gallery on Saturday night. In Other Words features a set of new works on canvas, wood panel, paper that mirror the MSK-affiliated writer’s outdoor work of vibrant grids and patterns with a geometric network of colors. The exhibition runs through November 3rd alongside George “EWOK” Thompson’s new series of paintings. Photo credit: James Ng for Arrested Motion.

Streets: World Roundup (March 19 – March 25)

Another weekend, another Streets: World Roundup here on AM. The highlighted mural this time comes from Tahrir Square in Egypt where Sheikh Khan painted one of the barriers that the Egyptian military erected to divide the streets that connect to government power centers. This wall, which was painted to look as if it was never there is one of many that the young artists in the area have painted over (story via Hyperallergic). Other street work that caught out eyes this week include Vhils (Luxembourg), […]

This past Saturday, the Known Gallery and gallery director Casey Zoltan, presented an exhibition titled Assorted Flavor which featured the eclectic work of seven different artists. The lineup included the likes of Kevin Ancell, Jason Jägel, Saber, Patrick Martinez, Greg Lamarche, Push and Augustine Kofie. Displayed across a wide open space perfectly suitable for this kind of exhibit, the artwork showed an interesting mix of graffiti-style art, mixed media work, and even some traditional painting. More commentary and opening photos after the jump…

Preview / Streets: “Art in the Streets” @ MOCA

The clock is ticking as the artists are putting the finishing touches on the Art in the Streets exhibition at the MOCA Los Angeles. Set to open to the public this Sunday, the show was in the final stages of preparation as AM stopped by today to check on the progress both indoors and out. After a quick lap indoors, we feel confident enough to tell you that this looks to be one the best show that we’ve ever seen. Bad news is that we […]

Showing: Push – “Divided Attention” @ Known Gallery

Currently on view at LA’s landmark contemporary graffiti-inspired institution Known Gallery is the monumental first solo show by Push.  Dubbed “the thinking man’s graffiti artist” by LA Weekly, the self-taught Push has been hugely influenced by fellow AWR/MSK crew member, mentor, and close friend SABER (interviewed). Push’s abstract and colorful paintings look deceptively simple, yet are nuanced and sophisticated in their execution, color palette, and look.  You can tell that a lot of thought, effort, and consideration went into each and every vibrant and energetic […]
