Openings: Retna Installation @ Rivera & Rivera

For the final exhibition in Rivera & Rivera’s South Park location, internationally-acclaimed, Los Angeles-based graffiti star Retna unveiled a ground to ceiling installation featuring his signature text-styled skills. The black and white work combined spray paint and fabric and covered the floor and 25-ft. high walls from top to bottom. The immersive work is a complete visual experience and takes you deep inside the artist’s universe. In addition, there was a private room where screen prints and paintings were shown.  See more images after the […]

Events: Retna Installation @ Rivera & Rivera

Our friends at Rivera & Rivera just let us know about their reception tonight from 8-11pm for a new floor-to-ceiling installation by abstract L.A. street artist Retna. The scope of the project looks impressive, so if you are in the area, RSVP to [email protected] and check it out. See a few additional preview images, after the jump.

Basel Week Switzerland ’10: Volta6

The last fair we attended while in Switzerland was Volta6, and although it was way across town from Art Basel (covered, part 1 and 2) and Scope (covered), in a somewhat industrial part of the city, we were glad we made the trek. Unlike VoltaNY (covered), Volta6 was not focused on single-artist booths, so the smaller fair offered visitors a large range of interesting emerging artists.

Streets: Mac & Retna Mural (Completed) @ Culver City

Mac and Retna once again beautify Los Angeles with a spectacular piece of street art for one and all to enjoy. The mural is located on 3030 S La Cienega Blvd., right by some of the best galleries in California, so make it a art-filled day trip and check it out for yourselves. More images after the jump…

Streets: Mac & Retna Mural (In Progress) @ Culver City

Those who came out for the Culver City Artwalk and ventured south of Washington on La Cienega encountered a very special treat. Two legends in graffiti, El Mac and Retna, were collaboratively painting a huge mural sponsored by Rivera & Rivera.  The team, who have blessed walls from coast to coast–including many beautiful ones in Los Angeles already–worked into the night, unloading aerosol can after aerosol can on this piece.  Word is that they had two days left on this one, but as you can […]

Preview: Retna – “Desaturated” @ New Image Art

On Saturday night, March 20th, New Image Art will be hosting a new solo show from well-known graffiti artist Retna. Known for taking fashion advertisements and overlaying them with his special graffiti linework and symbology, this exhibition will bring that process into the gallery setting.  As you can see from these images sniped from Modern Multiples (featured), Retna spent some time in the LA printmaking studio with master printer Richard Duardo getting ready for this show. More after the jump…

Revok & Retna x Body Art

As you all have probably realized by now, sometimes there are perks that come with the job of being an artist (just ask Ron English).  Well, this basically confirms it as we see pics of Revok & Retna’s summer during a body painting event in Beverly Hills. More after the jump…

Update/Streets: Hush

Check out this interesting time-lapse video of Hush (interviewed) working on his large mural from his solo show “Hymn of Beauty” at Carmichael Gallery in LA (coverage here).  His next stop will be at the legendary Fifty24SF Gallery / Upper Playground in San Francisco, opening April 2nd. After the bold showing of large scale original pieces in Los Angeles, the new show focuses on the other side of Hush’s oeuvre – hand finished prints.  Hush tells us that there will be 8 new hand finished […]
