Last month, Jules Maeght Gallery in San Francisco opened a joint show from YESNIK EVAD and Cécile Granier de Cassagnac entitled Subliminal Sanctuary. Previews: YESNIK EVAD & Cécile Granier de Cassagnac – “Subliminal Sanctuary” @ Jules Maeght Gallery

On February 8th, YESNIK EVAD aka Dave Kinsey will be presenting more work that explores the abstract direction he has taken recently with opening of his show with Cécile Granier de Cassagnac at Jules Maeght Gallery. Entitled Subliminal Sanctuary, the joint exhibition in San Francisco will see the American artist and French painter put on display their approach on portraying of outdoor landscapes with Granier de Cassagnac’s ethereal watercolors striking a nice contrast with Kinsey’s earth-toned totemic acrylic and collage works. Showing: Ryan McGinley – “Paradiso” @ Ratio 3

Currently at Ratio 3 in San Francisco, Ryan McGinley has on view his latest showing with the gallery entitled Paradiso. The new set of photos from the New York-based artist are prime examples of his signature aesthetic, celebrations of the human form in stunning natural settings. His latest works are the result of photography sessions in upstate New York during the winter and fall seasons, what look to be worthy additions to his much loved Road Trip series. Showing: Andrew Schoultz – “lluminated Opposition” @ Hosfelt Gallery

On view thru this Saturday at Hosfelt Gallery in San Francisco is Illuminated Opposition, a new solo exhibition from Andrew Schoultz. The transformative showing from the Los Angeles-based artist continues his socio-political commentary with a series of paintings set among an immersive installation of wall murals and sculptural pieces. Seen are his familiar patterns and motifs including repeating images of eyes, skulls, horses, ships, and other signs of the illuminati. Discuss Andrew Schoultz here.

Recap: Hush // Untitled After Party @ Heron Arts

Over the weekend, Heron Arts in San Francisco hosted the afterparty for the UNTITLED Art Fair featuring the artwork of Hush (interviewed). With his largest installation to date, the British artist filled the space with his geishas, graffiti inspired patterns, and his east meets west aesthetic. Rounding out the evening was a musical performance from legendary San Francisco turntablist DJ QBert and Egyptian Lover with supporting sets from Romanowski and Smokes. For those interested, the exhibition will be on display on Saturdays from 11am-4pm and by appointment until February 6. Upcoming: Stella Im Hultberg – “Mago” @ Spoke Art (SF)

Following up on her solo there in 2015 (covered), Stella Im Hultberg (interviewed) will be opening a show at  Spoke Art in San Francisco this Thursday, August 31st. Entitled Mago, the new body of work from the Portland-based artist includes paintings and drawings that explore her Korean heritage, traditional folk stories, and her experiences with having a child. The name of the exhibition is taken from the mother of mothers and root of creation in Korean mythology, something that resonates with Stella as a mother and an artist. Available […]

Previews: Collin van der Sluijs & Super A – “Back and Forth” @ First Amendment Gallery

Tonight (June 8th) in San Francisco, First Amendment Gallery will be opening a joint show from Collin van der Sluijs and Super A. Entitled Back and Forth, the exhibition features collaborative works from the Dutch artists (something they have done often on the streets) as well as individual works. Super A’s paintings feature a dark sense of humor while wander Sluijs’ painting are more loose and free-flowing. Take a look at more preview images below (first five are collaborations). Recap: Art Market San Francisco 2017

A couple weeks ago the seventh edition of Art Market San Francisco returned to the Fort Mason’s Festival Pavilion to the delight of collectors and art fans in the Bay Area. Featuring works from artists working with an international selection of 80 different galleries, the event looked to have something for everyone. This Saturday night, May 6th, Spoke Art in San Francisco will be opening a new group show entitled TONDO. As the name of the exhibition suggests, over 50 artists were asked to contribute works that were round with creative license to use their own style and imagery.
