Upcoming: “La Familia – 10 Years of Thinkspace”

Coming up on January 10th, Thinkspace in Los Angeles will be celebrating their 10 year anniversary with La Familia, a group exhibition featuring over 100 participants. Each artist will be creating a 10″ x 10″ piece on panel (provided by Trekell) like what Scott Listfield painted above – an intriguing post-apocalyptic look at the Culver City gallery where only their EINE painted roll down door survived. Other artists include Aaron Horkey, Aaron Nagel, Adam Caldwell, Alex Yanes, Alexis Diaz, Allison Sommers, Amanda Marie, Amy Sol, Ana […]

Last week when AM stopped by the LA Art Show, we made sure to pay a visit to the special Littletopia section curated by Red Truck Gallery. Participants included galleries like Sloan Fine Art, Breeze Block, La Luz de Jesus, Last Rites, Roq La Rue, Spoke Art, Thinkspace, and Varnish Fine Art. Take a look at some more photos below… Discuss this show here.

Earlier this month, the Buddy System Invitational (curated by Sven Davis) opened at the Breeze Block Gallery in Portland. On September 5th, the Breeze Block Gallery in Portland will be opening a group exhibition (curated by Sven Davis) with an interesting premise. Each of the 22 invited international artists were asked to bring along a fellow artist to exhibit alongside them – each producing one 16 x 20″ & one 8 x 8″ artwork. Of course, what we will be looking forward to is also to see how the show will be installed but check out some preview images below (and one of Scott Listfield’s […]

Openings: “Wider than a postcard” & olive47 – “bonita bonita” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Breeze Block Gallery opened their huge group show Wider than a postcard (previewed) alongside the first solo show in their new gallery 2 space – olive47’s bonita bonita (featured) a couple of weeks back to a packed Portland crowd. Over 400 individual works went into the postcard show with 200 artists providing postcard sized works. The work was hung on the walls in grids of 24 cards, each echoing the aspect ratio of the individual works themselves as each work was 6×4 inches. The variance of work encompassed photography […]

Previews: “Wider than a postcard” @ Breeze Block Gallery

On the back of his Space//Form group exhibition last year (covered), Arrested Motion’s Sven Davis is working with Breeze Block Gallery in Portland again on another huge group event entitled Wider than a postcard. With over 200 artists and 400 individual works, this exhibition looks to be both bigger than the previous event and also smaller at the same time as all of the artworks are postcard sized at 6×4 inches. Each artist is either making work on a found / owned postcard and adapting / adding […]

Preview: Scott Listfield & Jeff Gillette @ Gallery 1988 (Venice)

Later tonight, the Venice location for Gallery 1988 will be unveiling a two-person show from Scott Listfield and Jeff Gillette. The exhibition pairs Listfield’s astronaut pop culture-infused portraiture with Gillette’s postapocalyptic visions of the urban settings leading to an interesting look into the future perhaps from both artists. The show runs through February 24th. Discuss this show here.

Teaser: Adult Swim x Gallery 1988 (Melrose)

Here’s a show coming up for all the Adult Swim fans out there. On January 13th, the Gallery 1988 on Melrose will hold a group exhibition featuring, as inspiration, characters from the adult-oriented cable network that shares channel space with Cartoon Network. The opportunities for satire, irreverent commentary, and all out fun is limitless with the full slate of risque, unorthodox, and bizarre content up for grabs. For example, you will recognize the Mooninites from Aqua Teen Hunger Force in the piece above from Scott Listfield that also cleverly […]
