Streets: David Shrigley – “Really Good” // Fourth Plinth (London)

At the end of last month, David Shrigley revealed his public art commission standing on the Fourth Plinth at Trafalgar Square. Entitled Really Good, the seven-meter-high bronze piece featuring an extra long thumbs up was sand cast in 50 pieces over 9 months. The British artist hopes that this 11th sculpture for the long running arts program will become a “self-fulfilling prophecy – that things considered bad, such as the economy, the weather and society will benefit from a change of consensus towards positivity.” Photos via It’s […]

REMED x Okuda @ Campo Viejo Vineyards (Part II)

In 2013, Remed and Okuda collaborated on a sculpture in the vineyards of the winery Campo Viejo in La Rioja, Spain. Entitled A Bridge Between Sky and Earth, the installation which has become an icon for the wineries was recently repainted by the two artists in a colorful and vibrant palette. The fresh paint job will be used for the fourth limited edition label of Campo Viejo Art Series range signed by by the duo. Discuss REMED here. Discuss Okuda here.

Tomorrow night (September 15th) in New York, Daniel Arsham will be opening a show at Galerie Perrotin entitled Circa 2345. The exhibition will be the locally-based artist’s 11th solo with the gallery, but his first in their NYC branch. Currently in Brussels, Isaac Cordal’s show entitled La Comédie humaine is on view at La Médiatine. The series of sculptures and installations continues to document the lives of the little cement businessmen that the Spanish artist is known for, mirroring his work on the streets. One of the events that marked the official opening of this year’s Nuart Festival on the 8th of September was the opening of Jeff Gillette’s solo show at Nuart Gallery. For Dismayland Nord, the Detroit-based artist brought his iconic “dismayland” imagery to the idyllic city of Stavanger in Norway. Streets: Patrick Shearn – “Liquid Shard” (Los Angeles)

Liquid Shard was an installation in downtown LA that was on view for two weeks created by Patrick Shearn of Poetic Kinetics. The undulating piece featuring suspended holographic mylar and monofilament arranged in a long ribbon-like canopy in Pershing Square and measured 15,000 square feet in length. Continuing his longstanding relationship with Giant Robot, Eishi Takaoka is currently showing a new body of work entitled Socks at their gallery location – GR2 in Los Angeles. The Japanese artist’s serene head sculptures usually include something sprouting or interacting with their faces, oftentimes carved from one piece of wood. These extrusions are outwardly manifestations of his bottled up emotions and hidden frustrations with lower middle class life in Japan. Discuss Eishi Takaoka here.
