Streets: D*Face in Pisa

We love the way that UK artist D*Face combines a healthy mix of pop art with street art, and these pictures of some of his latest outdoor work are no exception. D*Face was recently invited out to Italy by Rate Civic Pisano – Pisa Town Council – to paint a mural dedicated to Keith Haring, who was commissioned by the town to paint his rare “permanent” mural “Tuttomondo” in the city exactly 20 years ago. AM continues to be blown away by the explosive power of WK Interact. For “Motion Portrait,” his current show atÂ Jonathan Levine Gallery (covered), the Frenchman created a series of pieces entitled “Twelve Angry Men.” These works personify theÂ prejudice, turmoil and conflict experienced in the classic play and film. ABOVE (interviewed) continues his trip throughout Europe with a stop in Berlin, Germany, making his mark on the Berlin Wall a little over 20 years after Ronald Regan made his historic speech at Brandenburg Gate stating, “Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate. After his amazing debutÂ Los Angeles solo show, Israeli street artist Know Hope made his way over to the Big Apple and worked a pretty sick street mural at the Hotel Chelsea that was commissioned by No Longer Empty. A couple days ago, we got news of a new Banksy mural up in “Old Street” London. Our first thought: makes sense, “Old Street” is one of his trademark spots to tag. But, something didn’t seem right. For example, it wasn’t signed by the Bristol bomber. Turns out it was the work of another UK artist – Mantis. Unperturbed by the theft of the first spinning prayer wheel (close-up feature) they placed in Williamsburg last month, Brooklyn based collective Faile have again installed another one of their beautiful, hand-carved prayer wheels in New York.Â With these prayer wheels selling for upwards of $20k at Faileâ€™s â€œLost in Glimmering Shadowsâ€ (covered) show last year, this awesome street piece probably won’t last for long. Brooklyn based collective Faile have taken their street work to another level and put a nice “spin” on things by installing one of their prayer wheels (close-up feature) on North 6th Street in the Williamsburg neighborhood of New York City. Hand-carved from Merbau wood, the prayer wheels made their debut at Faile’s â€œLost in Glimmering Shadows” (covered) show last year. Hopefully the steel bolted base and 100 pound weight means this piece will be around for fans to enjoy for some time – wishful thinking. […]
