Last week, Unit London hosted the opening of a group show curated by the founder of Paintguide, Henrik Uldalen. Along with his work, other artists who were invited in the past to take over the art sharing Instagram account also contributed to the exhibition. Openings: Direct Address @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Last week, we attended Joshua Liner’s opening of his new Chelsea gallery with a group exhibition entitled Direct Address. The expansive ground-floor space was filled with a impressive collection of works by The Clayton Brothers, David Ellis, Evan Hecox, Jean-Pierre Roy, Kris Kuksi (above), Richard Colman, Stephen Powers, SWOON, Tomokazu Matsuyama, Tony Curanaj and others. This past weekend, New York’s Cotton Candy Machine hosted their second annual “tiny” art showcase entitled Tiny Trifecta. As we mentioned in our preview, artists this year upped the ante as each created three pieces of original artwork for fans who may not have the opportunity to purchase their larger scale works. Openings: Shawn Barber – “Memoir: The Tattooed Portraits Series” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Last week in New York, the Joshua Liner Gallery played host to artist and tattoo specialist Shawn Barber’s (interviewed) new solo – Memoir: The Tattooed Portraits Series. The new body of work features portraits of notables in the body inking subculture (many of them the painter’s close friends) as well works featuring various selections of tattoo paraphernalia. This Thursday night in New York, the Joshua Liner Gallery will be opening Shawn Barber’s (interviewed) Memoir: The Tattooed Portraits Series. The exhibition featuring new oil paintings by the Los Angeles-based artist is his second with the Chelsea showspace and his most personal to date. Coming up at the end of June, Joshua Liner will be hosting a new solo from Shawn Barber (interviewed). Featuring his Tattooed Portraits, this second showing (see 2010) with the New York gallery draws on his day job as a successful tattoo artist for inspiration on a series of rich oil paintings including a huge 72″ x 108″ piece of Japanese tattooist Shige.
