Over the weekend, the Known Gallery in Los Angeles hosted the opening for an exhibition from Dennis Morris, a UK-based photographer especially known for his work in the music industry. This particular showing focuses on his iconic shots of Bob Marley, a seminal period of time in his young career when he toured with the Jamaican singer-songwriter. The night also featured the release of a collaboration print with Shepard Fairey, with some of the edition set aside (which is being released online as we speak). Photo credit: […]

Releases: Shepard Fairey – “Ai Weiwei” Print

It looks like Shepard Fairey (featured) has created a new print as a tribute to Ai Weiwei ahead of the Chinese artist’s show opening soon at the Brooklyn Museum. The portrait is created with Shep’s signature style and features a gash on the activist-artist’s scalp alluding to his time in the Chinese police’s hands back in 2010. As a result of that incident, AWW’s passport was confiscated and he has been unable to travel, including to show openings like the upcoming one in New York. The edition is created […]

Streets: Swoon – Bowery & Houston Mural (Part II)

In the middle of last Fall, Swoon (interviewed) was tapped as the next artist to hit the iconic Bowery & Houston mural location. We caught her working day and night (here) to get her visual language up for New Yorkers to enjoy. Utilizing her well known hand-painted paper cuts and wheatpaste collages, Swoon & her team created a beautiful mural that captured the layers of the city and its urban inhabitants. Ironically, once the mural was finally completed the city underwent construction that blocked part of the mural. […]

Streets: Shepard Fairey (NYC)

When in New York City the old adage is true – “Go big or go home.” In the latter half of 2013, Shepard Fairey visited the Big Apple for the Wooster Collective anniversary show (covered) where he stayed for a while to share his brand of visual beautification. Mr. Spray himself worked alongside a great group of street artist, to give back to the DUMBO district (featured) in Brooklyn. The result of his work was a beautiful large scale mural over 40 feet high. But that wasn’t […]
