The Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga is hosting the first solo exhibition in a Spanish museum of Los Angeles-based artist Shepard Fairey (featured). Curated by Fernando Francés, the retrospective spans over 25 years, and features paintings, silkscreens, stencils, stickers, illustrations, collage, photographs, sculptures and works in wood and metal. With over 300 pieces, this is the largest body of work from Shep to ever be exhibited. Fresh off painting a mural for POW! WOW! Long Beach, PUSH got right back to work on his solo opening on July 11th at Known Gallery. Remember To Forget will just be the latest showing with the Los Angeles gallery through the years and once again highlight the MSK-affiliated writer’s signature geometric-form based imagery. Next Thursday, July 16th, BC Gallery in Berlin will be opening a solo show from Axel Void entitled Sehnsucht. Continuing his long collaboration with Lazarides, Ian Francis (featured) recently returned to London for the opening of his new show at the gallery’s flagship Rathbone Place location. The Chosen Form of Your Destroyer consists of new series of mixed media works that explore the coexistence of beauty and destruction in society today, rendered in the British artist’s signature mix of abstract and photorealistic techniques utilizing oil, ink, acrylic, graphite and charcoal. On July 18th, Naoto Hattori will be opening a new show at Copro Gallery in Los Angeles, the site of many previous exhibitions from the Japanese artist in the past. For this particular showing, the gifted painter has narrowed his focus to a series of surreal portraits rendered meticulously with amazing detail. Known of her undulating sculptural creations through the unconventional use of feathers, Kate MccGwire currently has some works on display at various locales. Some of her pieces are at the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol alongside work from Peter Randall-Page (through September 10th) – you can read more about it here. This weekend, a show co-curated by Andrew and Shawn Hosner of Los Angeles’ Thinkspace Gallery and Josef Zimmerman of the Fort Wayne Museum of Art will open at the museum. Entitled Invisible College, the group exhibition refers to the fact that many of the participants have found success outside of the traditional art educational model. After Melbourne, LA and NY, the next show on Søren Solkær‘s Surface world tour opened Friday June 12th at Øksnehallen in Copenhagen. The exhibition in his hometown is the largest on the world tour, covering a 3,500 square meter area, which provided a great setting for a major street art related event.
