Previews: MyFinBec 2014 Show @ Ruttkowski;68

From the 15th till 19th of August, gallery Ruttkowski;68 in Cologne will be showing the new works from this year’s MyFinBec project. The annual series organized by the winery Cave Fin Bec in Switzerland commissions artists to create wine labels for their special limited edition organic wine. This year’s lineup included VHILS from Portugal, Herakut from Germany, C215 from France, and Etam Cru from Poland. In every instance, eight different labels were painted on stacks of 84 crates each. Showing: André @ Museum of Design and Fashion (Lisbon)

Paris-based street artist André Saraiva opened a showing at the Museum of Design and Fashion (MUDE) in Lisbon last month. Featuring one of the most recognizable characters in the street art world, an exuberant stick-figure alter ego, Mr. A, as well as many other aspects of his career spanning graffiti, painting, street art, installation, sculpture and film, the exhibition is a retrospective (open through Sept. 28) that brings the artist of Portuguese origin back to his roots.Take a look at the diverse collection of works below… Photo credit: Stick2Target.

Upcoming: Bruno 9li – “Materia Radiante” @ David B. Smith Gallery

Coming up on Thursday, August 14th, Bruno Novelli (aka Bruno 9li) will be opening his first solo show with David B. Smith Gallery in Denver. We have not been following the São Paulo-base artist of late, but the new works entitled Materia Radiante drew our attention with the use of vibrant colors and geometric forms inspired by long walks in the rainforests of his native county. Including paintings on canvas, drawings on paper, digital works, and metagraphic maps, the versatility of the Brazilian artist will be on full display. […]

Currently showing at Narwhal Contemporary in Toronto is a three person show entitled View Point Geon featuring the work of Matthew Feyld, Alvaro Ilizarbe, Paul Wackers. For this exhibition, the Canada-based Feyld continues to explore the continued abstraction of his figurative work while Ilizarbe brings Haring-esque patterned wall sculptures from Peru. Over the weekend, Vered Gallery opened a new showing from Colin Christian (interviewed) entitled Cosplay, a fitting name collectively for the new selection of sculptures and for his work in general. The London-born and now Florida-based artist creates mostly comely female figures out of fiberglass and silicone, an natural offshoot of his artistic vision while operating a business initially making latex clothing for fetish stores around the country. Previews: Mark Whalen – “Peculiarities” @ Melbourne Art Fair

On August 13th, blackartprojects will be showing new work from Mark Whalen (aka Kill Pixie) at the Melbourne Art Fair. Peculiarities will see the Australian born, Los Angeles based artist continue his explorations of isolated geometric environments where his strange characters dance, contort, and interact in unusual ways, often beautiful and grotesque at the same time.
