Recap: Sol Lewitt @ Paula Cooper Gallery

Back in the fall, Paula Cooper Gallery transformed their main Chelsea space with a Sol Lewitt piece entitled Wall Drawing #564: Complex forms with color ink washes superimposed. Basel Week Miami ’13: Rubell Family Collection – “28 Chinese”

While down in Miami for Art Basel Week, we took the opportunity to check out 28 Chinese, the current exhibition at the Rubell Family Collection. As the name implies, the show consisted of paintings, photographs, sculptures and videos by 28 contemporary Chinese artists which were acquired by the Rubells’ during multiple visits to China between 2001 and 2012. Openings: “Conjoined IV” @ Copro Gallery

Over the weekend in Los Angeles, the Copro Gallery opened the fourth edition of their sculptural group show curated by Chet Zar (interviewed). Entitled Conjoined IV: A New Beginning, the exhibition featured the work of many talented artists and sculptors out there, some of which work in the film industry. On the 1st of February, the Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City will be hosting the opening for VERSO, a new solo show from Joao Ruas. LA Art Show ’14: Highlights

Upcoming: Bumblebeelovesyou – “Bee Yourself” Popup Show

On January 23rd (6 – 9 pm), Bumblebeelovesyou will be holding a popup show in Los Angeles entitled Bee Yourself in Los Angeles (4621 West Washington Blvd).  This will be the first solo show from the LA-based street artist and will continue the socially and environmentally conscious direction often seen in his work. Of course, there will be plenty of riffs on his namesake seen in his imagery. The exhibition runs until January 26 with regular hours of 12 – 8 pm. Discuss Bumblebeelovesyou here.

Josh Keyes – “The Old Ones” / “Far Side of the World” Online Show

Earlier this week, Josh Keyes (interviewed) released images to the first installment of his Far Side of the World online show. The Old Ones sees the Portland-based artist explore the origins of the animals and creatures that inhabit his paintings, some larger than life. Continuing to explore a new style that takes his imagery clear to the edges, Keyes has put aside for now the organic cubism and isolated constructs that has been his calling card over the years.
