One unique building housed two notable ABMB events. The Pritzker Architecture Prize winning structure (designed by Herzog & de Neuron) held a great exhibition entitled PISTON HEAD: Artists Engage the Automobile. This show utilized the top floor and held a selection of classic automobiles reinterpreted by a distinguished group of artists including Ron Arad, Bruce High Quality Foundation, César, Dan Colen […]

Basel Week Miami ’13 : Tracey Emin – “Angel Without You” @ MOCA (Miami)

We made sure to stop by the Miami Museum of Contemporary Art while in town for Art Basel Week to take in an impressive collection of works from Tracey Emin. Entitled Angel Without You, the exhibition includes the Why I Never Became a Dancer video purchased in 1998 by the MOCA, the first American museum to acquire work from the UK-based artist. Also included is a wide selection of the neon works she has become famous for including a large piece created for the courtyard that inspires the exhibition’s title. Take a look at […]

Amsterdam’s secretive street & urban art gallery, The Garage, is celebrating the end of the year with a group show featuring works by their represented artists and friends. Openings: Mike Leavitt – “Empire Peaks” @ Jonathan LeVine

Last month, we stopped by the Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York to check out a new showing from Mike Leavitt (interviewed) entitled Empire Peaks. Showing alongside Riusuke Fukahori’s work, which also had a three-dimensional feel to it, the new body of work from the Seattle-based Leavitt featured a mashup of historical figures and Star Wars characters, something we gave you a glimpse of in our earlier studio visit. Take a look at some photos of the new sculptures, like the Ghandi x Yoda figure above… Discuss Mike Leavitt here.

Yesterday, we visited one of the satellite fairs for Art Basel Week in Miami – the Untitled Art Fair. In its second year, the event expanded to include 90 galleries and not-for-profit spaces from 19 different countries. Instead of working with a selection committee, the fair uses a curatorial approach trusting the New York-based Omar Lopez-Chahoud to select participants to the invite-only showing. Take a look at some photos below… Discuss Art Basel Week Miami here.
