Tonight (May 18th) at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery, Souther Salazar will be presenting his fourth solo with the gallery entitled Souvenirs. Openings: Alex Lukas @ Guerrero Gallery

Over the weekend, fans of Alex Lukas in the Bay Area saw the return of the Philadelphia-based artist to Guerrero Gallery with a new solo show. Openings: Nychos – “Pellis Os Omentum” @ Galo Art Gallery

Currently on display through the weekend at the Galo Art Gallery in Torino, Italy is a solo show from Austrian painter Nychos. Pellis Os Omentum includes a series of paintings and drawings that closely references the anatomical focus and cartoonish quality of his street work. Openings: “Wider than a postcard” & olive47 – “bonita bonita” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Breeze Block Gallery opened their huge group show Wider than a postcard (previewed) alongside the first solo show in their new gallery 2 space – olive47’s bonita bonita (featured) a couple of weeks back to a packed Portland crowd. Over 400 individual works went into the postcard show with 200 artists providing postcard sized works. Upcoming: Anish Kapoor @ Martin-Gropius-Bau

Coming up this weekend on May 18th, the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin will be opening a new show from Anish Kapoor, one the most influential sculptors of his generation. The exhibition, his first major one in the city, will feature about 70 works spanning his diverse range of mediums including stone, steel, glass, wax, PVC skins, and high-tech material. Brooklyn-based artist and professorial sign painter, Stephen Powers aka ESPO (featured), is currently in Brussels where he’s setting up his solo show titled Visual Blues at Alice Gallery. At the beginning of the month, AM paid the PK Shop a visit to attend the signing of two monographs from Mark Ryden. The newer of the two, The Gay 90s, published by Rizzoli, illustrates the works included Ryden’s 2010 exhibition The Gay 90s: Old Thyme Art Show at Paul Kasmin Gallery (covered) while Pinxit by Taschen is a more comprehensive overview of the low brow luminary’s paintings organized by the themes of his major exhibitions.
