Openings: Stephan Doitschinoff – Novo Asceticismo @ Jonathan LeVine

It’s been a while since we caught up with Stephan Doitschinoff (aka Calma). The Brazilian artist last showed with Jonathan Levine Gallery back in 2008 (covered) but now is back with a new series entitled Novo Asceticismo, which hits religious themes via mixed-media works rich in symbolism and highlighted by Latin text. Doitschinoff reflects on the sacrifice and deprivation necessary for the modern man to continue and live purely despite a society filled with vices and common mental traps. AM recently stopped by the agnès b. gallery boutique to catch their latest exhibition with esteemed Italian photographer Massimo Vitali. The opening reception allowed guests to peruse a new series of photographs taken in Italy, Turkey and Greece from 2009-2011. Teaser: Colin Christian @ International Museum of Art and Science (Texas)

Next month in Texas, Colin Christian (interviewed) will be sharing some of his sculptural work at the International Museum of Art and Science in Texas. On display will be 20 of his fiberglass cyber-erotic and fetish-inspired creations including this 4 x 4.5 feet piece seen above entitled Outsourced. Haroshi x HUF x DLX Collaboration Event

Coming up on January 7th in Los Angeles (545 S. Clarence St.), sculptor Haroshi (last seen at his NY solo) will be unveiling his limited edition collaboration with HUF and Bay Area skateboard distributor DLX. The event will also include an exhibition of six original works by the Japanese artist who is known for crafting work from compressed skateboards. Preview: Thomas Woodruff – “The Four Temperament Variations” @ P·P·O·W Gallery

Basel Week Miami ’11: Nick Walker @ Corey Helford (SCOPE)

Delving further into Corey Helford Gallery’s booth at the SCOPE Art Fair, we now focus on some work from Bristol artist Nick Walker (interviewed). Definitely making his presence felt as he showcased a diverse mix of new paintings, he included a new addition to the TMA (The Morning After) series with the city of Miami along with his signature character making a stop at the Eiffel Tower. Thought the “Vandal” would take a holiday break after hitting Hong Kong, but we guessed wrong… More after the jump.

Teaser: SHAG – “Animal Kingdom” @ Corey Helford

Next February in Los Angeles, Josh Agle aka SHAG will be presenting a new body of work at the Corey Helford Gallery, site of his solo (covered) at the end of 2009.
