Teaser: Affordable Art Fair (Los Angeles)

For the younger collectors out there in Los Angeles, there is good news as the Affordable Art Fair will be in town from January 18th – 22nd for their debut showing. Held on the event deck at L.A. Live, the goal is to present contemporary art priced from $100 – $10,000, with half of the work under $5,000. A couple weeks ago in Toronto, the newly renamed Cooper Cole Gallery hosted the opening for Brothers of the Weird. Showing: Maurizio Cattelan – “All” @ the Guggenheim (NY)

Currently on show at the Guggenheim in New York until January 22nd is a can’t-be-missed retrospective from Maurizo Cattelan. The awe-inspiring installation features virtually everything the artist has produced since 1989, all displayed dangling on ropes in a gravity-defying presentation the museum’s rotunda. The Italian-born artist’s incendiary and provocative style, offered up in this inventive and fresh way, includes his infamous satirical sculptural works referencing the pope, Adolf Hitler, John F. Basel Week Miami ’11: Mark Moore Gallery @ PULSE

One of our favorite booths this year during Art Basel Week in Miami was from the Mark Moore Gallery in Los Angeles. Some of the works featured included the intricate wood works from Kenichi Yokono, the thick and textured paintings from Allison Schulnik (whose video we just shared with you yesterday), the kinetic stylings of Andrew Schoultz, the crowd shot watercolors from David Rathman, and the hyperrealistic portraits from Yigel Ozeri. Openings: Hush @ Onethirty3

Last week, the Onethirty3 installation space in Newcastle hosted its newest featured guest – Hush (interviewed). The UK-based artist presented his signature blend of anime influenced imagery with the raw energy of urban forms while creating an immersive transformation in the gallery confines. Last weekend, Scott G. Brooks and Fred Harper opened up a joint show at the Last Rites Gallery in New York. Brooks let his imagination run wild with a series of dark and inventive works entitled collectively The Luckiest Widow In The World & Other Tales Of Misfortune. This Saturday, the agnès b. Galerie Boutique will be opening their latest show featuring acclaimed photographer Massimo Vitali. The Italian artist will be in attendance for the opening reception from 6-9 and be on hand to sign editions of two of his recently published books: Natural Habitats and Landscape with Figures.
