Preview: “Summer Group Show” @ StolenSpace

Tonight in London, the StolenSpace Gallery will be holding their annual Summer Group Show. Featuring represented artists as well as a few new names to the roster, this exhibition will include all brand new works in varied media and size as well as new print releases from D*Face (interviewed) & Word To Mother (interviewed). Other names you may recognize in the show include Sylvia Ji, Chloe Early, Hellovon, Eine, Mysterious Al, Oliver Vernon, and Josie Morway (see full list here). Teaser: “Bad Luck Club” @ The Alternative Cafe

This Friday night, July 8th, in Seaside near Monterey Bay, California, The Alternative Cafe Gallery will be hosting Bad Luck Club, a group show put together by Aya Kakeda featuring 13 female artists from Brooklyn. One of the painters chosen was none other than Stella Im Hultberg (interviewed), who continues her re-exploration of her paper pieces.  Other artists included you may recognize are Dan-ah Kim and Tara McPherson but check the full list as well as more from Stella after the jump…

After hanging up his distinctive large-scale sculptural pieces in March at the Muziekgebouw Concert Hall in his home-city of Amsterdam (covered), Boris Tellegen aka Delta moved on to his next project, this time in the epicenter of art fair world – Basel, Switzerland. Teaser: Andy Warhol – “Campbell’s Soup Cans” @ MOCA

This weekend at the MOCA, some of Andy Warhol’s most iconic work will be on display to the public. Campbell’s Soup Cans will be presented for the first time at the Los Angeles museum and is a celebration of the original exhibition at Ferus Gallery, his first solo showing all the way back in 1962. AM has been keeping a watchful eye on Continental European shows featuring works by Barry McGee. Whenever the cashflow gods have been on our side, we’ve booked the necessary flights or trains to attend as well. On Friday night, the Corey Helford Gallery celebrated its 5th anniversary by showcasing the artwork of more than 50 different artists from all across the world. Preview: Philip Lumbang & Ernesto Yerena – “Dead Relatives” @ Black Book Gallery

On July 9th, the Black Book gallery in Denver will welcome Philip Lumbang & Ernesto Yerena (featured) for a collaborative show entitled Dead Relatives. The two Shepard Fairey disciples meld their own unique styles – Lumbang with his animal characters and Ernesto with his Chicano inspired collage work – together for some works inspired by Day of the Dead imagery. Teaser: Brian Viveros – “Returning Art to the Unclean” @ Last Rites Gallery

When we we last visited Brian Viveros in his studio, he was hard at work getting ready for his The Dirtyland exhibition at Thinkspace. After that successful showing last October, the Riverside-based painter will be bringing his entire “Smoking Arm-Me” to New York for his next solo at the Last Rites Gallery in September. Teaser: Andrew Hem – “Cold Water” @ LeBasse Projects

On July 16th, LeBasse Projects will be hosting a new body of work from Andrew Hem (interviewed) at their Culver City gallery entitled Cold Water. Themes of isolation and personal conflict will be the focus of the paintings as the viewer follows Andrew’s journey from “being surrounded by cold situations and places” until emerging from that situation and then heading back onto the road to happiness. Preview: Shawn Barber – “Youth of Today” @ Fecal Face Dot Gallery

On July 8th, the Bay Area will welcome master tattooist and fine artist Shawn Barber’s (featured) and his new collection of paintings. For those familiar with his work, they will know of a certain group of paintings he calls the the Doll Series – from which it looks like some of these preview images would fit in.
