Next Thursday, June 9th, at The Hole in New York, Miami based art collective FriendsWithYou will be introducing a new body of work simply titled with a smiley face emoticon. The name of the show is in line with their eternally cheerful & uplifting persona, and will feature what sounds like an immersive installation of their geometric abstractions. For the those with voyeuristic tendencies out there, the Carmichael Gallery recently hosted the opening for a show that might fit your artistic taste. Breach of Privacy features the work of five NY-based artists – Yasmine Chatila, Hilo Chen, Adam Krueger, Alyssa Monks and Jaclyn Santos – and their explorations of the nature of voyeurism with their renditions and glimpses of private moments from afar all presented over a range of mediums including oils, mixed media, and photography. A couple weeks back, the Jonathan LeVine Gallery hosted a new body of work from Mars-1′s (featured) alongside Miss Van’s Bailarinas (covered). For this show, entitled Afterglow, Mars-1 elected to paint several large-scale, acrylic works on linen allowing him to expound on a grander scale his geometric visions of otherworldly landscapes. Currently showing at Gladstone Gallery until July 1st, the late Keith Haring’s first exhibition with the NY showspace features never before seen works on paper. Interestingly enough, three of the large scale pieces included were created in conjunction with a series of Bill T. Jones performances held in 1982 at The Kitchen, which were executed in real time during Jones’ dances with the sound of the brushstrokes serving as the only thing the audience heard. It’s been almost a year since we’ve seen a major show from Glenn Barr. Fans in Los Angeles will be happy to hear that the Detroit-based artist will present his new collection of works entitled Faces this Friday, June 3rd, at La Laz de Jesus.
