Teaser: Remi/Rough & Jaybo – “No Beginning, No End” @ Galeria Nuble

As soon as the paint dried from Remi/Rough and Jaybo’s ProjectRoom (covered) event with Juice 126 last week, the pair’s attention turned to their two person exhibition “No Beginning, No End” at Galeria Nuble in Santander, Spain, opening tonight (Thursday, June 17th). Long time friends and collaborators, Remi and Jaybo will be bringing some more live painting installation fun to the gallery alongside a series of new works on canvas, where they are now putting finishing touches to the pieces for the show. Previews: Mark Brown – “Daydreams” @ Gallery 1988 SF

It’s been a while since we’ve seen the rad hand of Mark Brown (interviewed) at work. The last time was at a solo at Gallery 1988 (LA) last year. This time he’s trekking up to No-Cal to visit Gallery1988 (SF) for another solo exhibition called “Daydreams”. The show opens this Friday, June 18th at 7pm. Highlights: Recommended openings for June 16 – June 19

Summer is in full-swing as we lead into the middle of June. Some major events are going down this week including the big debut of “Mr. Bitchin'”, Robert Williams’ new movie. Other shows on our radar include big Barry McGee & Clare Rojas museum show in Bolinas along with the opening of one of the most prestigious art fairs in the world – Art Basel in Basel, Switzerland featuring a solo showing of works from Kris Kuksi at Joshua Liner’s booth at the fair.

Openings: Herakut – “Happy Doubt Day” @ Gallery Springmann.Varol

German collaborative artists Herakut (interviewed) opened their show “Happy Doubt Day” (previewed) recently at Galerie Springmann.Varol. Along with paintings utilizing their signature mix of photorealistic and graffiti elements, the duo also introduced sculptural pieces that translated their paintings fantastically into 3D form. Also wowing the crowd was a large immersive installation. More photos after the jump…

Openings: Lisa Yuskavage @ Greengrassi Gallery

AM favorite Lisa Yuskavage is currently exhibiting at London’s Greengrassi Gallery. The New York based artist comes at us with another collection of dazzling works featuring her ever sultry figures of women in their natural state. What’s really cool is that she’s continuing to create smaller works to compliment the larger canvases which already run a pretty penny (hundreds of thousands), much like this gem we saw at David Zwirner from last year’s Art Basel Miami. Check out this breathtaking parade of paintings after the […]

Behind the Scenes: Logan Hicks @ Galerie Itinerrance

Logan Hicks (interviewed) recently opened his solo show in Paris with the good people at Galerie Itinerrance, who were nice enough to send over some behind the scenes pics leading up to the opening. Not only is Logan known as one of the most skillful stencil artists out there, but he is also behind alot of the street events out there as an organizer, promoter, and all around glue guy in the scene – not to mention the best beard in the business. More pics […]

Openings: Yoskay Yamamoto – “Familiar Strangers” @ Lebasse Projects

This past Saturday saw the opening of Yoskay Yamamoto’s (featured) exhibition “Familiar Strangers”. It is the third solo show by the artist at LeBasse Projects and features a diverse range of work, including paintings on panel and canvas, sculptures made of cast resin and metal, and hand carved wood sculptures. The well-attended opening included artist friends Audrey Kawasaki, Luke Chueh, Edwin Ushiro, Nate Frizzell, and Bumblebee. More after the jump…

Showing: Armsrock – “Drawn Towards The Present” @ Signal Gallery

Danish artist Armsrock (interviewed) opened his solo show “Drawn Towards The Present” with London’s Signal Gallery last week. Ever willing to push the boundaries and try out something new, Armsrock filled the gallery with huge charcoal pieces on rice paper, suspended around the gallery with thin wire trace. The work is viewable from either front or rear due to the delicacy and translucency of the paper – the pieces nearest to the window being especially effective as you can observe the world going by through […]

Live Painting: ProjectRoom with Jaybo, Remi/Rough & Juice 126

London’s first Projectroom event took place last night, with out-of-town organiser Jaybo inviting locals Remi/Rough and Juice 126 to collaborate in a live painting event. The three artists each took a canvas to start work on individually – Remi and Jaybo working directly on the wall and Juice getting all primeval by working barefoot on the floor. As the evening progressed the three dipped in and out of the each others canvas’ leaving 3 pretty unique and well composed collaboration pieces. Expect more collaborative painting from […]
