Highlights: Recommended Openings for This Weekend (May 28th & 29th)

Bit of a slow weekend as we ramp up for the HUGE amount of shows on tap for this coming June. By far the biggest event this weekend goes down in Paris, France – the return of the legendary NYC graffiti writer SEEN at Galerie Magda Danysz. This summer, the MCASD will be holding an exhibition showcasing some of the best art the streets have to offer. Art HK 2010 recently opened their doors to over 150 galleries from all over the world to display their wares in the increasingly important cultural hub of Asia – Hong Kong. Vernissage TV was on hand to document some of the opening day action at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center as collectors from all over the region gathered to see what dealers had to offer. A late reminder for all our readers in the SF area. Tonight, Damon Soule opens a new show at the famed Bay Area art portal’s gallery – Fecal Face Dot Gallery. Unlike his last solo show, which was held at Thinkspace (covered), for this new body of work will include collaborations with Mars-1 (featured), David Choong Lee, and Oliver Vernon – something that crew has been experimenting with. His distinctive and grotesque work reflects on the struggles and adversities of life as well as the joys and lessons that can come from fighting through the difficult times. AM UK recently attended the bustling evening that was the London launch of Patrick Nguyen & Stuart Mackenzie’s “Beyond The Street” book, hosted at Phillips de Pury. The level of support for the book came over extremely positively in the number of people that attended the event. Openings: Hajime Sorayama @ Shirokane Art Complex

You may remember Hajime Sorayama from his collaboration with Kaws on the “No Future Companion” figure that we covered last year. A famous artist in his own right, the Japanese paintor, who is know for for his sexy robot and pinup art, opened a show recently at the Shirokane Art Complex.
