Takashi Murakami x Vans Vault Showcase @ Hotel Du Grand Veneur

Over the weekend Hotel Du Grand Veneur in Paris hosted a collaborative showcase between Takashi Murakami and Vans. Coinciding with this season’s Paris Fashion Week, the launch event featured shoes (adult and child), skate decks, surf boards, tees, and related artwork. as well as a roundtable conversation with the esteemed Japanese artist. Openings: Masakatsu Sashie – “Blind Box” @ KP Projects // MKG

Just this last Saturday night, Masakatsu Sashie was at KP Projects / MKG presenting some new works in the project room, complementing Jeff Soto’s exhibition in the main space. Entitled Blind Box, the series of oil paintings and drawings centered on the Japanese artist’s striking spheres of manmade objects. The suspended orbs are beautifully rendered and are overlaid over urban environments speaking to ideas of globalism and universality. Openings: Jeff Soto – “Nightgardens” @ KP Projects / MKG

Over the weekend, fans of Jeff Soto (interviewed) enjoyed his first showing in Los Angeles in almost a decade. Streets: Surface Project (Copenhagen)

The 5th show on Søren Solkær‘s Surface world tour opened on June 12th at Øksnehallen in central Copenhagen. The exhibition itself features 122 portraits of some of world’s most famous street artists, who were all featured in his recent book Surface (covered). To celebrate this big event, the Danish photographer invited six international and esteemed artists to create large-scale murals in the streets of Copenhagen. Currently in the Hamptons, at Eric Firestone Gallery, the San Diego-based Kelsey Brookes has a series of works on display that continue his abstract exploration of molecular structures. Moving on from painting colorful artistic interpretations of neurotransmitters (here, here & here), the former biochemist has turned his attention to naturally occurring hallucinogenic botanical compounds – Muscimol, Ergoline, Scopolamine and Ibogaine – Plants Of The Gods. Streets: Miss Van (Coney Art Walls)

After bringing you a look at the walls Maya Hayuk and Ben Eine painted on for the Coney Art Walls, we now have shots of the piece Miss Van worked on. For this wall, the Toulouse legend painted one of her signature poupées between two horses. Entitled appropriately Gypsy with Stallions, the vibrant colors and imagery familiar to street art fans make this mural a worthy addition to the Deitch curated project. Photo credit: Birdman Photos.
