Last night in conjunction with POWWOW ’14, RVCA & The Seventh Letter teamed up to put on an exhibition featuring some of the graffiti & street artists they are affiliated with. Currently showing at the Resnick Pavilion of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art through July 27rd is an exhibition featuring Alexander Calder’s kinetic sculptures. Calder and Abstraction: From Avant-Garde to Iconic is billed as his first museum show in Los Angeles and includes of course his signature “mobiles” and later “stabiles” that have made his work famous around the world. The installation of the exhibition was designed by architect Frank Gehry, and frames Calder’s work perfectly for the viewer. Openings: Ben Eine – “Heartfelt” @ Judith Charles Gallery

On Wednesday, renowned graffiti artist Ben Eine unveiled a new series of works at Judith Charles Gallery. Entitled Heartfelt, the street typography wizard conveyed his thoughts & emotion through his bold color compositions. The exhibition showcased both his large format canvases and his print-making techniques. Using subtle changes in color and texture, EINE changes perception with his Jedi mind trick word plays. Studio Visits: STASH – “Cap Indicates Color” @ Sports Lab (Atmos)

AM recently had the pleasure of visiting a legend in the New York Graffiti scene – STASH. Long known for his bold outlines and clean shapes, the bomber is in Tokyo for a fresh exhibition. Entitled Cap Indicates Color, the new series of works explores some of the iconic spray cap motif & splatter that he made popular in with his visual language. Tonight, February 5th (5-8pm), Stephen Webster in Beverly Hills will be hosting a new show from  D*Face (interviewed) along with the US release of his new monograph – One Man and His Dog. Along with this signing session, a new collaboration print between the UK-based artist and his friend Shepard Fairey, who wrote an essay for the book, will be released entitled FACE to *FACE (Edition of 200, 18″ x 24″, $80). Last month, AM stopped by ZieherSmith in New York to take in the grotesque yet beautiful work of Allison Schulnik. Entitled Eager, the name of her newest stop-motion claymation film (which premiered on opening night), the exhibition featured paintings and sculptural works related to the film.
