André & Futura have joined forces for a unique collaborative show at Danysz Gallery in Paris with their signature pictorial characters. Aptly entitled Chez Nous, the exhibition presents a series of unseen works where they answer each other and merge their energetic painterly gestures. Over the weekend in Taiwan, fans of KAWS experienced what their counterparts in Seoul felt (covered) when the American artist’s impressive HOLIDAY companion sculpture was revealed. Produced in a sitting position rather then laying down, the 36 meter tall inflatable figure relaxed itself at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in Taipei and will be on view through the 27th of this month. Jeff Soto for Empellón Al Pastor (New York)

After creating murals for Empellón Taqueria in New York a few years ago (covered), Jeff Soto (interviewed) has returned to paint for another restaurant from chef Alex Stupak. Empellón Al Pastor in the Pod 39 Hotel features three pieces from the Riverside, California-based artist utilizing his signature imagery. Previews: Mr. – “Mr.’s Melancholy Walk Around the Town” @ Perrotin (Paris)

Continuing to expand on a recent body of work last seen in Hong Kong (covered), Mr. will be opening a new show tomorrow night (January 19th) at Perrotin Gallery in Paris. Entitled Mr.’s Melancholy Walk Around the Town, the new work from the Superflat movement artist features more of his anime inspired works portraying young girls in a ero-kawaii style, made personal when considering it is billed as a “wider reflection upon solitude, social anxiety, impotence and fear.” Check out more photos of the setup below… Photos courtesy of ©︎2011-2018 […]

Upcoming: “KAWS:HOLIDAY” (Taipei)

Later today in Taiwan, KAWS will be unveiling the next iteration of his KAWS:HOLIDAY program after its debut in Seoul last year (covered). On view at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall between January 19 and 27 in Taipei will be the New York-based artist’s largest work to date, a 36-meter tall inflatable version of his signature Companion figure. Showing through the end of this week at Joshua Liner in New York is Riusuke Fukahori’s Goldfish Blossoms. For his third and largest solo yet with the gallery, the Yokohama-based artist has produced a wide selection of his signature acrylic and resin paintings of goldfish. Swimming in Japanese household objects and handmade vessels, the fish appear astonishingly three dimensional with the artist’s layered resin painting technique leading to an illusion of depth and realism. Currently in Amsterdam, Daniel Arsham just opened a show entitled Static Mythologies at Ron Mandos Galerie featuring a diverse selection of works. Along with the European debut of his immersive installation Lunar Garden, the American artist has also included examples of his eroded sculptures and the newer masked sculptures.
