Releases: SABER x 1849 Wine – “Iris” Bottle

Following up on his sold out Au Jus, Triumph, and Anonymous collaborations with the 1849 Wine, SABER (interviewed) recently released another bottle he designed for the wine company. Iris is of a 2013 vintage, a pinot noir “rich with dark cherry aromas accented with notes of violets and spice, supported by toast and the faint smoke from the barrel.” The label features imagery taken from the graffiti artist’s Tool of Dissent painting, a burst of colors created in his distinctive urban calligraphy. For this year’s Life Is Beautiful arts and music festival, JUSTKIDS / Charlotte Dutoit once again put together a worthy roster to add their unique talents to the outdoor vistas of downtown Las Vegas. Openings: Ryan Hewett – ‘Order’ @ Unit London

South African artist Ryan Hewett (interviewed) has returned to London for a new solo show at The Unit London entitled Order featuring a new series of expressive and semi-abstract portraits. Depicted figures include himself as well as Egon Schiele, Marcel Duchamp, Lucien Freud, Samuel Beckett, and Audrey Hepburn. Unlike his 2015 solo show Untitled in which he created deliberately chaotic and semi-abstract portraits of famous figures, the new body of work is more planned and focused with abstract strokes and a textured pasto technique. Streets: Bezt // Etam Cru – “The Sleeping Knight” (Las Vegas)

Last week in Las Vegas, Bezt from Etam Cru painted a lovely new mural entitled The Sleeping Knight for the Life Is Beautiful Festival. Curated by JUSTKIDS, artists from all over the world came to leave their mark on Sin City including one half of the Polish street art duo. Previews: Jeff Soto – “Graffiti” @ Bunsen Goetz Galerie

Tomorrow night (September 30th) in Germany, Jeff Soto (interviewed) will be opening a new solo at Bunsen Goetz Galerie in Nuremberg, a followup to his show there with his friend in 2013 (covered). Entitled Graffiti, the exhibition references the roots of his artistic expression and will include large works on unstretched canvas and smaller stencil based paintings on wood. Streets: Cleon Peterson // Nuit Blanche Paris @ Eiffel Tower

Following in the footsteps of Shepard Fairey (featured) of creating art at the Eiffel Tower (covered), Cleon Peterson has done something Mr. Obey has never had the opportunity to do – painting the first mural ever directly below the famed monument. Created for this year’s Nuit Blanche in Paris (organized by Palais de Tokyo), the piece is entitled Endless Sleep, a reference to the famous late-night cultural festival. The circular piece features the Los Angeles-based artist’s signature figures inspired by Greco-Roman frescos sans the usual provocative imagery. Discuss Cleon Peterson here.

Streets: Ai Weiwei – “Reframe” @ Palazzo Strozzi (Florence)

Over the weekend, Ai Weiwei unveiled a provocative new installation on the facade of Palazzo Strozzi in Florence which continues his commentary on the current refugee crisis in Europe. Entitled Reframe, the Chinese artist’s latest public work will features 22 life rafts attached to the historic building’s windows, a striking critique of the handling of the humanitarian crisis.
