Streets: World Roundup (June 18 – June 24)

Leading this week’s world roundup of street activity is this new mural from Specter (source). The storefront looks amazingly real and was painted for the Bushwick Five Points Festival in Brooklyn. Other walls worth mentioning include work from Andreco and Erica il Cane – Morocco (source), Niels SHOE Meulman – Italy (source), Matt W. Streets: World Roundup (April 9 – April 15)

As you have seen from our coverage, Richmond, Virginia just had a stellar cast of artists roll by for the G40 Art Summit. To follow that up, this weekend sees more murals in town for the RVA Street Art Festival with another sweet lineup of artists. We’ll have a photo summary of that soon but check out this first piece from Mark Jenkins (interviewed). Other murals to peruse this week include Sten Lex (Italy), Bumblebee (California), Herakut (Germany), Specter (Baltimore), Stinkfish (Peru), BTOY (Portugal), and […]

A new project coordinated by Gaia in his home city has kicked off recently with this mural from the young street artist. A line up of Interesni Kazki, Maya Hayuk, Swoon, Specter, Doodles, Jaz, Ever, Freddy Sam, Mata Ruda, Nanook, MOMO, Vhils, Sten and Lex, Chris Stain, Jetsonorama, […]

Streets: Specter – “Unwanted Collaborations / Sidebusts”

Usually, messing with another artist’s work is considered poor form, but perhaps not so with a recent project by Specter. “Unwanted Collaborations / Sidebusts” sees the New York based artist rehabilitate and give fresh life to distressed and dissed street works from artists we are all familiar with. Check out his subtle touch on this Faile (featured) piece above and the Swoon (interviewed) piece after the jump, but also take a look at the before and after pics of these and other examples on his website.

Showing: Spector, Various & Gould – “Make It Fit” @ Brooklynite Gallery

Currently showing at the Brooklynite Gallery is “Make It Fit” (previewed), a show featuring Brooklyn-based artist Specter and the German duo of Various & Gould. We showed previously, a little of what Various & Gould were doing on the streets, but here is a look at the duo combining with Specter in taking over the gallery space with installations and standalone pieces. More pics after the jump…

Preview: “Make It Fit” @ Brooklynite Gallery

Opening this Saturday at Bed Stuy’s vanguard Brooklynite Gallery is “Make It Fit,” a show featuring Brooklyn-based artist Specter and the German duo of Various & Gould. The theme of the exhibition is “work,” with the artists using their skill and ingenuity to transform found and discarded materials into a visual investigation of what the concept of work means to them. We anticipate that the artists will not only transform the materials, but the gallery itself, making it into an installation best experienced in person. […]
