Openings: “Celeritas” @ SURU

The motorcycle culture themed “Celeritas” show (previewed) and silent auction held last weekend at SURU in Los Angeles was a huge success, raising $66,000 for Riders for Health, a non-profit that funds the transportation of medical personnel to remote communities in Africa. The centerpiece of the show was a 2009 Suzuki Hayabusa customized by Barry McGee coupled with a mannequin draped in styling Darren Romanelli fashioned motorcycle leathers. Tomokazu Matsuyama named Top Ten of Art Dubai

It seems like Matsu’s a thoroughbred that keeps outpacing the competition. Keeping the momentum from his stunning solo at Joshua Liner Gallery (covered); Tomokazu (Matsu) Matsuyama’s “Runnin II” was named one of the top ten pieces in this this year’s Art Dubai by Emirates Business. Elms Lester is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a new group show and book launch. The book catalogs 17 exhibitions over the past 12 years with a Who’s-Who of contemporary urban art: Adam Neate, Jose Parla, Phil Frost, Anthony Lister, Futura, James Marshall (Dalek), Boris Tellegen (DELTA), Mark Dean Veca, Ron English,  Space Invader, Stash and WK Interact.
