Preview: “WE HEART WOOD Jibibuts Custom Show” @ Munky King

The “WE HEART WOOD” customs show opens tonight, April 8th, at Munky King in Melrose with dynamic duo Noferin inviting 30 of their artists friends to customize their latest blind box mini wood toys – Jibibuts. Not all artists have what it takes to paint on 3D surfaces, but masters of the art like Jeremiah Ketner, Doktor A, Dan May, Yoskay Yamamoto, and Stella Im Hultberg make it look easy with an awesome collection little works of art. More preview images after the jump.

Sketchbook: Stella Im Hultberg

We had only recently started our new sketchbook feature which takes our readers back to what is often times the very beginning of an artist’s creative process. Conveniently for us, Stella Im Hultberg (interviewed) posted up some images of her sketches on her blog for all to enjoy.  Take a look there or after the jump at the ballpoint pen & brush pen produced gestural doodles.

Openings: Stella Im Hultberg – “Penumbra” @ Copro Gallery

Last weekend, after a nice Izakaya dinner with the artists, the AM crew headed over to Copro Gallery for the three person show (Stella Im Hultberg, Amy Sol, and Nicoletta Ceccoli).  Stella flew all the way from New York to attend the show and brought with her a new darker and more brooding body of work. The paintings were all on paper including a couple larger ones we especially liked with a darkened backdrop and hidden faces. Often times, an artist’s work is influenced by […]

Update: Stella Im Hultberg

Looks like Stella Im Hultberg (interviewed) has been working through some ideas recently for her upcoming show “Penumbra” alongside Amy Sol (teased) in November at Copro Gallery. Stella’s versatile showing at Thinkspace Gallery in July left her many options to pursue, but this new show, tentatively speaking, will probably focus on works on paper and perhaps wood. Also, as if Stella and Amy weren’t enough, Nicoletta Ceccoli (interviewed) will be showing concurrently with them. More images from Stella and showcard after the jump…

Saturday night, AM attended the opening of Joshua Liner Gallery’s summer group exhibition, which collects solid works from a very strong roster of artists, some of whom the gallery has shown previously and others of whom the gallery is working with for the first time. From the show, it is clear that Liner is actively evolving and maturing his gallery. And from the response from collectors and others at the opening, it seems that what he’s doing is working. More after the jump…

Openings: Stella Im Hultberg – “Memento Mori” @ Thinkspace

Stella Im Hultberg (interviewed) made her solo return to Los Angeles this past Friday with “Memento Mori” (previewed) at Thinkspace Gallery. Greeting patrons as they walked through the door was an impressive mural featuring Stella’s luscious lipped women on a “nature-esque” green backdrop – a small taste of the breathtaking body of work that awaited them. Inside the gallery, Stella’s talent was showcased across a variety of surfaces, from deep-hued canvases that were bursting with emotion, to intricate pieces on wood and tea-stained paper, as well as some […]

Preview/Setup: Stella Im Hultberg – “Memento Mori” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Stella Im Hultberg (interviewed) opens her solo show “Memento Mori” (previewed) at Thinkspace Gallery this Friday, July 10th. AM dropped by the gallery and caught Stella working on what’s shaping up to be an impressive mural and we were also lucky enough to get a sneak peek at the wide variety of work she produced for this show. There are impressive works on canvas which exhibit maturity in her technique, striking pieces on wood where Stella employed the use of graphite, acrylic, metallic pen and watercolor, a series of beautiful wood figures and of course, Stella’s tea-stained […]

Preview: Stella Im Hultberg – “Memento Mori” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Stella Im Hultberg (interviewed) recently posted up some preview images from her upcoming July show “Momento Mori” at Thinkspace Gallery.  “Memento Mori” is a Latin phrase meaning “Remember You Shall Die,” typically used in reminding people of their own mortality, which should give us a little insight into this where Stella is going with this show.  From these initial pics, there appears to be a maturity to her canvas technique that making us excited about this new body of work. More after the jump.
