Streets: World Roundup (July 15 – 21)

It’s been a while since we had a streets round up here on AM so we have some catching up to do. Leading off things for recent street activity around the world is this new mural (photo via SAN) from Conor Harrington (interviewed) in Rochester, New York. The wall was painted for the ongoing WALL\THERAPY festival and features the UK-based painters signature mix of colonialism, abstraction, and photorealism. Other notable murals include work from: Proembrion – Poland (source), Ericailcane x Bastardilla – Italy (source), Herbert Baglione x SAN […]

Upcoming: Titi Freak – “In A Dream” @ Black Book Gallery

On August 2nd, the Black Book Gallery in Denver will be hosting a new solo show from Titi Freak. Featuring works that combine influences from his Japanese heritage and the urban aesthetic from the streets of Sao Paulo, the exhibition from the Brazil-based painter will be entitled In A Dream. Those in the area should make plans to attend if interested. Discuss Titifreak here.

Streets: Aakash Nihalani (New York)

Aakash Nihalani recently sent over some photos of some tape installations he created for the exterior walls of the new Parrish Art Museum which just relocated to Watermill in a new Herzog & de Meuron building. Utilizing his outdoor medium of choice, the New York-based artist once again showed a deft touch in bridging the two and three-dimensional realms with these whimsical new pieces. Stop by his current show in Southhampton at the Tripoli Gallery if you have an interest in his geometrical aesthetic. Discuss Aakash Nihalani […]

Showing: ROA – “PAN-ROA’S Box” @ INOPERAbLE

You may remember street nomad ROA’s successful show at INOPERAbLE back in 2011 (covered). With a schedule that includes traveling more often than not, the in-demand street muralist only recently stopped by his home country for an exhibition (covered), before he headed out to Vienna again for PAN-ROA’S Box. Featuring a signature mix of found objects and interactive paintings of his dissected animal characters, the exhibition is a worthy destination for those in the area through August 31st. Streets: POSE x Dabs Myla (Chicago)

Straight off his show in New York (covered), POSE is back on the streets doing what he does best. This time he’s repping The Seventh Letter along with Dabs Myla in Chicago for Pilsen’s Art in Public Places initiative. Just one of the many murals as part of the project in the 25th Ward, the distinctive style of the three artists certainly brightened up the area. Photo credit: Alderman Danny Solis & the artists. Interview: DALeast

DALeast is a Chinese born artist that lives and works in Capetown, South Africa. After successful 2012 in which the artist painted his distinctive murals all over the world, had a sold out show at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in NYC, and instantly sold out two print releases, we thought it was time to catch up with him here on AM. So, we virtually visited him in his studio shortly after his successful show and murals project in London, and just before he headed for another productive […]

Streets: Nychos (San Francisco)

Nychos, who only last month hit up the streets of Denmark with multiple works, is on the move again. This time, the Austrian muralist has completed a new piece in San Francisco (with the help of Wallspace SF) entitled Eye of the Tiger featuring his cartoonish dissected style. For those in the Bay Area, you may want to check this out in person (on Geary between Jones and Taylor). Discuss Nychos here.

Openings: ‘Word Play’ @ Design Matters

A little while back we brought you a preview of some of the work for Word Play, hosted at Design Matters Gallery in Los Angeles. The premise of the exhibition excited us as the curated theme was based around text within art. The group exhibition was curated by Stephanie Chefas, of Platinum Cheese blog fame and features a variety of artists from very different backgrounds but all commonly using text in their work though a range of styles and mediums. Ben Venom (above), Shawn Huckins, Greg Lamarche, Gregory Siff, Meg Hitchcock, Meryl Pataky, and RERO all contributed […]

Streets: Remi Rough & Nawer (Poland)

We recently came across the Traffic Design Festival currently underway in Gdynia, Poland – in particular the wall that kicked off the street art event jammed out over a few days by Krakow based Nawer and Remi Rough, from London. The huge mural collaboration between the pair works well, with the architectural emphasis of the dividing lines created by Nawer sitting comfortably alongside Rough’s bold slabs of colour. The resultant piece is a strong showing of geometrically biased post / abstract graffiti. We have some pics courtesy of […]

Videos: Paul Insect & Sweet Toof – ‘Clowning Around’

Their latest collaboration is entitled Clowning Around. Check out the cool stop motion animated video they made of the piece coming together below… Discuss Paul Insect here. Discuss Sweet Toof here.
