Upcoming: ROA – “Stop Over” @ Bodson-Emelinckx

Tonight in Belgium, favorite son ROA will be opening a show at Bodson-Emelinckx in Brussels. Entitled Stop Over, this exhibition will finally give fans in his home country a look at his special anatomical style. As usual, the prolific street artist is keeping things close to the vest but here are a couple sneak peaks at what he is working on. Photo credit: Henrik Haven. Discuss ROA here.

POW WOW ’13: Faith47

South African power couple Faith47 and DAL were one of the many duos that were in town for POW WOW this last week. We’ll start with the delicate work of Faith first with photos of her mural The Silence Before across from the Fresh Cafe on Queen Street in Oahu. The minimal palette that she uses blended in nicely with the neighboring structures and will be admired by art lovers in that part of town for years to come. Discuss POW WOW here. Openings: Herakut – “Too High To Heal” @ Metro Gallery

Earlier this month, we shared some photos with you of the latest installation of The Giant Storybook Project from Herakut on the streets of Melbourne. The German duo were also in town for their latest solo show at the Metro Gallery entitled Too High To Heal featuring their signature mix of abstract and photorealistic painting. Embellishments that accompanied the work spilled onto the walls of the showspace, leading to a finished feel to the exhbition. Photo credit: Dean Sunshine. Discuss Herakut here.

Streets: How & Nosm (San Francisco)

AM caught up with How & Nosm in San Francisco just as they were completing their piece on the corner Hyde & Turk in a gated parking lot in the Tenderloin. The New York-based twins have been working at a lightning pace to make the most out of the daylight during their short stay in town. Check out more pics below, as well as their Instagram, which documented the progress. Discuss How & Nosm here.

Openings: GILF! – “i EXAM” @ Arcilesi Homberg

New York artist GILF! recently unveiled a fresh body of work at Arcilesi Homberg in DUMBO. Entitled i Exam, this brand new series of paintings comes from a different direction (as seen in our visit to her studio) than her previous graff & stencil style. Drawing from the experiences of recent travels to Berlin and Miami and utilizing the 90s visual effects of the “Magic Eye”, GILF flips the retro switch and begs the question that in the age of digital preoccupation and corporate & marketing bombardment, […]

POW WOW ’13: Shark Toof & Angry Woebots

Another wall that was shared during POW WOW this year was the side of Fresh Cafe & Loft In Space, center of much of the activity surrounding the event. Getting up at this location were the LA-based artists Shark Toof and Angry Woebots with their signature characters (sharks and pandas) looking fierce. Take a more detailed look in the photos below and keep it locked here on AM as we have more completed murals to share with you soon. Discuss POW WOW here.

POW WOW ’13: Nychos x Jeff Soto Mural

After a relaxing week in Hawaii filled with art, great food, and friends we haven’t seen in awhile, it’s time to share with you photos of some more of the murals that went up for POW WOW 2013. One of the collaborative pieces that seemed to work well for this year’s event was from Nychos and Jeff Soto (interviewed). With both artists who have some of the more painterly techniques there, the combination of their imagery meshed quite nicely on this large wall. Discuss POW WOW here. […]

Banksy Pays His Respects To Nekst

For those who frequent art websites, there has been an outpouring of love, shoutout, and tribute works (an example here) out on the streets after the passing of NEKST late last year. The MSK-affiliated writer who got his start in Houston before moving to New York was well respected in the graf scene and will be remembered through now and surely in the future by his peers. Recently from accross the pond, Banksy also has created an animated flickering flame image on the front of […]

Openings: José Parlá – ‘Broken Language’ @ Haunch of Venison

AM attended the opening of José Parlá’s Broken Language exhibition at Haunch of Venison in London last week, his first show in the UK since his significant and heavily calligraphic Adaptation/Translation exhibition back in 2008. Was it worth the wait? Hell yes. Having only had chance to see the majority of Parlá’s recent work vicariously via the internet since the Elms Lesters show, we – like many other UK fans of all things Parlá – awaited this new body of work with a strong sense of […]
