Streets: Nick Walker (Paris) Part II

After hitting up Paris with some street work (covered) back in February, Nick Walker (interviewed) has return for more. One of the walls (seen above) he painted was a mirror image of the piece he submitted for the Fifty Fifty group show that opened last week at Parisian showspace Mathgoth Galerie. Take a look at another piece from the Bristol-based artist after the jump…  As a bonus, we added another collaborative piece he painted with SheOne from his last trip there as well.

Teaser: Kenny Scharf @ Honor Fraser

In about a week, April 14 to be exact, Kenny Scharf (interviewed) will be opening his newest show at the Honor Fraser Gallery in Los Angeles. Although we spied his animated character on TV recently for his cameo on The Simpsons, we haven’t attended a solo from him since NY early last year. If you are lucky, there may be the customary free donuts – besides the amazing art of course – for those attending although you may have to be satisfied with a performance […]

Openings: Olek & David Peterson – “Synthetic Nature” @ Krause Gallery

AM recently attended the Olek’s latest show at New York City’s Krause Gallery. Yes, we said NYC. The rogue urban crocheter was out on bail from the UK and returned to her hometown to do a show with David Peterson entitled Synthetic Nature. For this special event, Olek ditched her signature yarn and utilized balloons. Using synthetic rubber, she built an cave installation by weaving semi-inflated balloons in a way that would make even Krusty the Clown blush. Designed to obscure the viewer’s vision, the cave is […]

RISK Paints Santa Monica Home

You may remember last year September, we told you about Risk and Retna (featured) collaborating on painting a house in Santa Monica. That controversial project raised money and awareness for the Heal the Bay Foundation, but drew the wrath of neighbors and resulted some drama and threatened fines from city officials. This time, developer Adam Corlin has commissioned only RISK to cover a new property, minus the scaffolding, with his distinctive abstract style. Look for a more revealing look in May in conjunction with RISK’s upcoming solo show. Discuss Risk here.

Openings: “Hookers” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Last weekend, the Corey Helford Gallery played host to the opening of the Natalia Fabia (interviewed) curated show Hookers. With the theme in mind, her artist friends including Kent Williams, Michael Hussar, Phil Hale, Erik Sandberg, Saber, REVOK, and more created pieces for the show that showed a diversity of mediums and range of artistic vision. Photos from the opening taken by ©Carlos Gonzalez after the jump…

Video: JR x Liu Bolin Collaboration (NY)

Last month, we brought you some photos (here & here) from the JR (featured) and Liu Bolin collaboration in New York. For fans out there who want to see more of this complex project, the people at RHC have put together a nice video documenting the entire process from start to finish. For those in NYC, you may want to check out Liu Bolin’s show at Eli Klein (covered) after stopping by the mural. Discuss JR here. Discuss Liu Bolin here.

Teaser: “Fifty Fifty” @ Mathgoth Galerie

Tomorrow night (April 4th), Mathgoth Galerie in Paris will be opening their Fifty Fifty group exhibition. For this showing, artists were asked to work with 50 x 50 cm canvases to create whatever they wanted. Nick Walker (interviewed) sent over a look at what he submitted, but if you are in town you may want to also check out what C215, Cope2, Cornbread, Crash, Labrona, L’Atlas, Smash137, Tilt, Zevs, and more have contributed. Take a look at the full list of artists after the jump…

Streets: Flying Fortress (Frankfurt)

At the end of last month, Montana Cans in Germany hosted a two day event, Just Writing My Name, where graf artists were invited to paint the Friedensbrücke bridge in Frankfurt. Munich-based legend Flying Fortress, who we met at this year’s POW WOW, participated with this long mural featuring “The Hit Collection.” Check out the full wall as well take a look at a video documenting the going-ons after the jump…

Openings: Meggs – “Journey is the Reward” @ Above Second

Last Friday in Hong Kong, Meggs made the 4500 mile journey from Australia again for another solo exhibition (see 2010) at the Above Second Gallery. With paintings, sculptures, and wall murals infused with his urban aesthetic and comic-inspired imagery filling the showpace, fans who attended the opening for Journey is the Reward were certainly not disappointed. Throw in some work on the streets of the city-state and it was definitely another productive trip. More photos after the jump…

Streets: G40 – Aryz, ROA, Jaz, Pixel Pancho, Gaia (Part 1)

It looks like the G40 Art Summit in Richmond, Virginia that we mentioned earlier has kicked off with murals going up at multiple locations around town. Starting things off were Aryz with a massive still-life, ROA with a bird and arrow, Jaz with six lions, Pixel Pancho with two walls in his signature robotic style, and Gaia with his hands and dove. We’ll be bringing you more as the artists plan to get up more than once and as more participants arrive. More photos after the […]
