Basel Week Miami ’11 / Videos: COPE2 – “Rise to the Occasion” Preview

Another show to check out while in Miami for this year’s Art Basel Week is a new solo from COPE2, who we recently saw in New York & Amsterdam. Still on a prolific pace, the wildstyle legend from the Bronx will be bringing a new body of work entitled Rise to the Occasion to the Wynwood Arts District (167 NW25th Street) for a show opening on December 1st and running to the 4th. Publications: KAWS for Whitewall’s Winter Luxury Issue

For this year’s winter luxury issue, Whitewall invited KAWS to design the cover (in two versions). In addition to this collaboration on the front of the glossy, the magazine will publish a 12-page studio visit feature including an in-depth interview, portraits of the artist, images of his new work, and KAWS’ own sketches and blueprints of his sculptures and paintings. 3D Joe and Max x Reebok – World’s Largest 3D Street Artwork

Yesterday in London’s West India Quays, Canary Wharf, on Guinness World Records Day, Reebok CrossFit has teamed up London-based street art duo 3D Joe and Max to complete what will go down as the world’s largest and longest 3D street artwork ever (for now). The deceptively realistic piece measures 1,160.4 metres square and is 106.5m long, beating the previous 892.15metre square record set by China’s Qi Xinghua, and will remain on display for the rest of today. Streets: Escif (France)

A while back, we gathered some photos of murals that Escif painted while in Niort, France, for the 1st edition of the Festival Le 4eme Mur (The 4th Wall).  Apparently there was one wall that we missed that could arguably be the most intriguing of the bunch from the Spanish street artist – a ghost motif that we have seen before from him, this time drifting slowly away from the body of of an animal as it dies… More photos after the jump…

Streets / Teaser: EVOL @ Pictures on Walls

Hitting up London ahead of his showing at Pictures On Walls on December 1st, German artist EVOL installed some his distinctive work at Smithfield Market. Featuring his uncanny ability to transform urban objects into tiny cityscapes, this latest street intervention will only fuel the fires of fans in the UK as EVOL and full supporting cast of artists take over POW with their upcoming show. Preview / Setup: Interesni Kazki – “Nothing Special” @ Mid-City Arts

AM stopped by Mid-City Arts yesterday to visit with Ukranian duo, Interesni Kazki, as they prepared a new body of work for their show opening on Saturday night, November 19th. Like their recent exhibition in Milan (covered), Nothing Special will feature an indoor translation of of their surreal outdoor murals as well as some other surprises. Preview: SIXEART – “Cosmovisión Andina y los Hijos del Inti” @ Galería N2

Opening this Thursday 17 November, Sixeart is back to the N2 Galería, in Barcelona, Spain, where some of the discerning public found out about his work a year before the Tate Modern discovered him. The new solo show entitled Cosmovisión Andina y los Hijos del Inti is an approximation to the ancient cultures of the Andes, full of colour, wisdom and misticism. Openings: “District La Brea” Group Exhibition @ MK2 Projects

Last weekend, MK2 Projects, the special exhibition space of Merry Karnowsky in Los Angeles, hosted a group showing from Shepard Fairey, Deedee Cheriel, Mercedes Helnwein, Mark Whalen / Kill Pixie, Mel Kadel, Travis Millard, Matt Small, Samuel Lowder (FrePrs), Lezley Saar, Aiko Nakagawa, Todd Carpenter and Steven R. Preview: London Police – “Who Cares Wins” @ Opera Gallery (New York)

The London Police are getting set to bring their impeccable linework and imaginative cityscapes to New York on Thursday, November 17th to grace the walls of the Opera Gallery in the heart of Soho.
