Releases: Banksy – “Petrol Bomb” Poster

As with his last release through POW, Banksy will once again generously use his clout by donating the proceeds from the sale of a new poster to a good cause. Instead of going towards the bail set on imprisoned members of Russian subversive street art collective Voina, the money will go to the Peoples Republic of Stokes Croft, in an effort to help in the wake of the Bristol Tesco riots over the weekend. The poster will be made exclusively available during Bristol’s Anarchist Bookfair […]

Preview/Studio Visit: SABER – “The American Graffiti Artist” – Flags

When Jeffrey Deitch first publicly hinted last summer of his intention to mount the first ever large-scale major museum exhibition of graffiti and street art, the first artist that came to his mind as the representational figure for today’s movement was SABER (interviewed).  Art in the Streets became a reality at MOCA and true indeed, SABER is a integral part of the massive and wildly successful exhibition.  Flexing his multitasking skills to its fullest, the LA-based artist will also be displaying his work in Street […]

Streets: Blu (Italy)

It looks like the warmer weather in Italy has allowed Blu to get up more recently (see Bologna & Palestra).  While the last two murals were collaborations with compatriot Ericailcane, this time Mr. Blu went at it alone in Jesi with this piece done over the Easter holiday. A hint at how he feels about religion? Discuss Blu here.

Overtime: April 25 – May 1

Tracey Emin sketches Prince William and his bride for cover of The Independent. Townhouse where Andy Warhol once lived on market for $4.3 million. Over 1000 protesters in Hong Kong took to the streets to demand the release of Ai Weiwei. Congratulations to Ai Weiwei for being the sole fine artist in TIME Magazine’s 2011 Time 100 list. Check out “Calvin and Hobbes” creator Bill Watterson’s first piece of art publicly seen in 16 years. It is being donated to the Team Cul de Sac fundraising […]

Streets: JR (Los Angeles) Part III

Apparently, TED prize winner JR is still in Los Angeles working on his massive The Wrinkles of the City project. We thought he had finished the series of walls (see Venice &  Melrose) and left town after his TED acceptance speech, but now we see a new piece is up on the side of the Sushi Roku in West Hollywood.  The French street photographer must have taken a break to enjoy his part of the Art in the Street exhibition. Take a look at another pic […]

Streets: Ethos (Los Angeles)

Angelinos have been privy to a lot of great street art recently, not to mention the landmark Art in the Streets exhibition currently showing at the MOCA. Another impressive piece (organized by LA Art Machine) went up recently from the Sao Paolo-based Claudio Ethos on Main & 5th Street and is his biggest mural to date according to Unurth. More photos after the jump…

Showing: “Spectrum” @ Mallick Williams & Co.

Following-up on Hueless (covered), which consisted of all black and white art, Chelsea’s Mallick Williams & Co. recently opened a new exhibition entitled Spectrum, which is aptly named not only because of its array of vibrantly colorful works, but also because the group show features a wide range of contemporary painters, including Chor Boogie, Lu Gold, Kiji McCafferty, Erik Otto and Kate Pane. McCafferty, one of the standouts of the show, himself exemplifies the theme of variety: an emerging artist of Japanese and Irish descent […]
