Releases: José Parlá – “Walls, Diaries, and Paintings” Book

Brooklyn-based artist José Parlá, who stopped the show with one of his magnificent street-inspired calligraphic works at OHWOW’s It Ain’t Fair exhibit (covered) during Art Basel Week last month, will be unveiling a new publication next month, entitled Walls, Diaries, and Paintings. Released to coincide with his exhibition by the same name at Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery next month, a quick encore of sorts to his showing there last June (covered), presumably follows in a long line of wonderfully produced show catalogs dating back to his […]

Preview: Sweet Toof – ‘Having A Dig’ @ Arch 402 Gallery, London

Here’s something to get your gums around… Everyone’s favourite purveyor of eye-candy Sweet Toof, one of the most prolific street artists in London, is bringing a selection of new paintings to London’s Arch 402 Gallery next week. He’s of course a classically trained fine artist, and the Royal Academy trained painter is well versed in working fast and dirty outdoors as the man who over the last couple of years put the ‘candy’ into the Burning Candy crew. Having A Dig brings the more refined […]

Openings: “Zen Garage” @ JANM

Last week, the Japanese American Nation Museum hosted “Zen Garage”, a small exhibition featuring some custom vehicles from Shinya Kimura, Giant Robot’s Eric Nakamura (interviewed), and David Choe (featured).  The highlight for us was Choe’s custom monster Scion xB showcasing some of his signature artwork on its body and his love for the drums in the back. Banksy – “In the Event of a Divorce Cut Here” @ Christie’s “Dennis Hopper” Auction

Near the end of 2010, AM attended the afternoon session of Christie’s Post-War and Contemporary auction (full results here.) This field trip was special in many ways for us. First, it served as the estate sale of legendary actor/collector Dennis Hopper’s impressive art collection with a chance for us to see many of the famous works he collected as we were shown in a video tour of his residence created before his passing. The second was to get a chance to bid on a unique variation of […]

Discuss Adam Neate here.

Publications: Roger Gastman – “Tools Of Criminal Mischief”

Our friend Roger Gastman has been a busy boy. First he was the consulting producer for Exit Through the Gift Shop, then he curated the Sanrio anniversary art show, and later in 2011, he’ll be helping the MOCA to curate their Art in the Streets exhibition. Somehow, he still found a way to squeeze some time in to write a new book on graffiti. Bringing together street art stories from current day to all the way back in the 1940’s, it’s definitely one to grab […]

We now have a video for you that was edited by his girlfriend Kim that documents nicely some of that amazing spray technique he uses to create his signature look.  Enjoy! Discuss El Mac here.
