Update: Herakut

After a busy year trekking around the world, the dynamic duo of Herakut (interviewed) has been heads down working on another series of works. Our friend Frankie from Camp Barbossa did a little “drive-by” of their studio and sent us some images for a little sneak peak. More after the jump.

Streets: Banksy Vs. Robbo

So… It seems that one of the pieces Banksy put up last week has a back story that most didn’t know about. Apparently, he stenciled over a 1985 piece by Robbo and other writers who were some of the pioneers of graf in London in the mid 80s. This has caused a pretty strong outrage among some old school graffiti writers and it looks like Robbo has gone back to paint over the piece, cleverly incorporating Banksy’s piece just like Banksy incorporated his. Openings: “Multi-Plane Show” @ Corey Helford

AM dropped by Corey Helford Gallery’s Multi-Plane Show opening (previewed) to see how the finished pieces turned out. The gallery came up with the show’s “Multi-Plane” theme by borrowing the idea from past animation techniques where scenes were created using multiple cell layers. As we mentioned in our preview, each of the featured artists were given a kit of different transparent panes to work on that are overlaid on top of each other to give the final painting more depth and richness. Take a look […]

Basel Week Miami ’09: Nick Walker – Primary Flight Mural

One of the artists we got to hang out with this year at Art Basel was Nick Walker, who flew in all the way over from the UK. If you liked the “mood board” piece that Nick sent us a photo of from his recent trip in Japan, then you’ll like what he did for Primary Flight this year. For these types of murals, Walker likes to mix different elements of his imagery into one integrated piece. In fact, you may want to check out […]

Streets: Os Gemeos Performance

Os Gemeos recently participated in a public performance in downtown São Paulo of “The Stranger” aided by a large balloon of one of their classic figures. The parade performance was done in collaboration with Plasticien Volants, a world-renowned French company which specializes in creating aerial theater with giant inflatable puppets.  Take a look at couple more pics after the jump, but for the full set, check out Lost Art.

Video: Gaia x No Longer Empty

One of the artists that we met up with this year at Art Basel, Gaia, recently collaborated with No Longer Empty (NLE) to paint a Chinatown pulldown gate in NYC.  Take a look at the time-lapse footage of the mural which was a closeup of one of his signature “Deny Me Three Times” images. Streets: New Banksy – Camden (Regent’s Canal)

Banksy fan and photographer Mammal sent us over some photos of new stencils from the elusive street artist near Regent’s Canal in Camden. Well-timed as usual with the Copenhagen climate talks ending without a legally binding treaty, Mr. B dedicated one of his pieces to the subject (after the jump) as well as this piece seen above with a pretty sweet tag. Take a look after the jump at more images as well as a third piece spotted by another man on the scene – […]
