Preview: “Iron To Gold/Ashes To Hope” @ Chandran Gallery (San Francisco)

Singapore-based Chandran Gallery will officially be opening its San Francisco gallery later in the year, after some needed renovations to its building. Basel Week Miami ’12 / Openings: “Time Evaporates, Emotion Elevates” @ Wynwood Walls

Earlier this evening, AM stopped by Wynwood Walls to check out the opening of the Time Evaporates, Emotion Elevates group exhibition inside the new Nicewalk Gallery space. The show featured backlit lenticular paintings (or photos) alongside some original works from selected artists (Aiko, Ron English, Swoon, How & Nosm, Logan Hicks, Kenny Scharf, Futura) who have painted murals at the complex. Thanksgiving sees another worthy release from MOCAtv featuring Caledonia “Swoon” Curry (interviewed) and her time in Haiti. Those looking for news from Swoon (interviewed), she has announced a new website that recently went online. Along with this, the new site will be selling new “Edition Variants” from the Brookyln-based street artist starting with different versions of her portrait of fellow artist and collaborator Ben Wolf. “Each piece begins as a miniature, screen printed version of a hand carved block print almost sixteen times its size. Openings: Dennis McNett x Swoon x Monica Canilao @ Galleria Patricia Armocida

Earlier this month Dennis McNett (featured), Swoon (interviewed) and Monica Canilao opened a brand new exhibition entitled The Folding of a Known World at Galleria Patricia Armocida. The trio of US-based artists traveled to Milan to work together on creating fresh collaborative installations filled with their signature styles and techniques. McNett sent us some photos documenting their progress as they slaved away in Italy as well as some final shots of the fruits of their labor. Check it all out after the jump.

Open Walls Baltimore

A new project coordinated by Gaia in his home city has kicked off recently with this mural from the young street artist. Open Walls Baltimore is a public art initiative in a neighborhood burdened by 150 vacant homes and hopes to bridge the gaps between the artist community that calls Station North home and the residents of Greenmount West.
