Openings: 10 Years of Fecal Face @ The Luggage Store

Last Friday, San Francisco celebrated an amazing ten year run for Fecal Face, source of all art in the Bay Area. The ten year anniversary show held at The Luggage Store included many of the artists that have been featured on their website of which AM’s readers are sure to be familiar with as well. Take a look at all the great pieces in the show after the jump (including this Mars-1 piece seen above)…

Openings: Travis Louie – “Curious Myths” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

On Saturday night, Travis Louie (featured) premiered his latest body of work entitled “Curious Myths” at Joshua Liner Gallery. Opening along with peer Sylvia Ji (covered), this show was another consistently detailed and creative endeavor that we come to expect from Mr. Louie. Going big was no problem for the master monochromatic painter as we saw some rather large and extraordinary pieces from the New York native. The hometown crowd definitely showed up in force to support the show. This must see show runs until […]

Openings: Sylvia Ji – “Las Adelitas” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

This past Saturday, AM attended the opening of Sylvia Ji’s (interviewed) “Las Adelitas” at Joshua Liner Gallery. The solo exhibition is Sylvia’s first in New York (previewed). Showcasing her signature Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) portraiture style, she honed in on the theme of “Las Adelitas”: the female fighters of the Mexican Revolution. Seeing her works in person gave us a whole new level of appreciation for the west coast artist. The eyes of her characters constantly draw the attention of the […]

Previews: Sylvia Ji – “Las Adelitas” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

After her last two solo shows in Los Angeles at Corey Helford Gallery and London at StolenSpace which AM covered for you here and here respectively, the third of the big art capitals, New York, gets its turn next week for Sylvia Ji’s (interviewed) with “Las Adelitas” at Joshua Liner Gallery. Taking the title of the exhibition from the the name given to the female fighters of the Mexican revolution, Ji’s portrayal of these soledaderas stems partly also from symbolic self portraiture. The exhibition contains […]

“Art From The New World” – Gary Baseman Hosted Tour / Artist Signing Event

Following on from the fantastic preview evening last Friday, Corey Helford Gallery’s “Art from the New World” continued to draw in the crowds on Saturday afternoon for the public opening consisting of a guided tour of the exhibition hosted by the inimitable Gary Baseman and a meet-and-greet signing session with the artists. Baseman held court in the lobby of Bristol City Museum alongside his costumed characters, giving an enjoyable potted history of the new contemporary scene and discussing how he and many of his peers […]

Openings: “Art From The New World” @ Bristol City Museum

Our friends from the Corey Helford Gallery brought their West Coast Style to the West Country this evening for the much anticipated opening of “Art From The New World” at the Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery. It seemed as though UK art fans were highly responsive to some of the wonderful work on show at the preview night, with a packed house drawing in the crowd from the length and breadth of the United Kingdom. Some real visual treats are on offer, from the […]

Preview: “Art From The New World” (Curated by Corey Helford Gallery) @ Bristol Museum and Art Gallery

Something exciting is coming to the UK in the month of May in the shape of “Art from the New World”, an exhibition organized and curated by Los Angeles based Corey Helford Gallery. The exhibit will show a snapshot of the blossoming American new contemporary scene that we at AM love so much and is to be held at the location of last year’s Banksy versus the Bristol Museum – The Bristol Museum and Art Gallery. If you’re in the UK, don’t miss this chance […]

Openings: Sylvia Ji – “Nectar” @ StolenSpace

London got a treat last night in the form of Los Angeles based artist Sylvia Ji’s (interviewed) debut UK solo show entitled “Nectar” at StolenSpace gallery (previewed). AM UK has been a long time fan of Sylvia’s work and were delighted to finally get to see it in person after years of admiring jpegs of her beautiful Catrinas. Sylvia was in town to celebrate the opening along with the StolenSpace crew and Corey Helford Gallery’s UK transplant Richard Scarry. See all of the opening pictures […]

Preview/Setup: Neighborhood SF @ 111 Minna

111 Minna will be presenting their latest show, “Neighborhood SF,” with the opening scheduled for tonight.  Curated by Martin Olive and Ryan Malley, “Neighborhoods” is easily looking like one of the better group shows this year.  Having SF artists interpret their respective neighborhoods is a great concept, and when you’ve got the likes of Jeremy Fish, Sylvia Ji, N8 Van Dyke, Mike Giant and David Choong Lee involved, well, let’s just say it takes the boring out of neighboring artists…. Installation shots after the jump.

Preview: Sylvia Ji – “Nectar” @ StolenSpace

Recently we teased you with a shot from Sylvia Ji’s (interviewed) studio for her upcoming show “Nectar” at StolenSpace. Now, we bring you a closer look as her UK debut on September 3rd draws near. As the title of the show implies, “Nectar” focuses more on the sublime expressions of lust and love. The color palette seems lighter and will use more gold leaf detailing much like the Baroque-style artwork that we observed from her last show – Haute Epoch. If you’re in London, be sure to stop […]
