Streets: Shepard Fairey (Dallas)

Last week, Shepard Fairey (featured) brought the OBEY show to Dallas for a series of street murals at the request of the Dallas Contemporary. In conjunction with the project, the institution which is modeled after European kunsthalles or art centers also hosted PHENOMENON, a party with Shep providing the music as DJ Diabetic. Showing: Colin Christian – “Fast Forward” @ International Museum of Art and Science (Texas)

Last week in Texas, the International Museum of Art and Science hosted a selection of fiberglass and silicone creations from Colin Christian (interviewed). Made up of a series of his signature cyber-erotic sculptures, Fast Forward features a body of work inspired by the Colin’s love for “sci-fi movies, pinup girls, anime, ambient electronic music, and author, H.P. On display will be 20 of his fiberglass cyber-erotic and fetish-inspired creations including this 4 x 4.5 feet piece seen above entitled Outsourced. Openings: KAWS – “FOCUS:KAWS” @ Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth

On Friday night, AM attended Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth where KAWS unveiled his latest show in the Lone Star state. The exhibition entitled Focus:KAWS is a mix of color and monotone works from the Brooklyn based artist including a previous series of tondos which made its way from this year’s Armory. In addition, the monocolor counterpart of the neon Dissected Companion from his showing with Honor Fraser also made an appearance. Releases: Kaws – Black SpongeBob Print @ Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth

For fans of KAWS that have collected the first two colors of his elusive SpongeBob print, the good news is he’s going to be releasing the anticipated third color to round out the trifecta on December 13th. There was no sign of KAWS this year in person at Art Basel Week Miami. Perhaps it’s because he is preparing for his upcoming show, FOCUS:KAWS (teased), at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
