Kamea Hadar x Tristan Eaton – “Pele, Maila, Hina” Mural

Last month, two veterans of POW! WOW! Hawaii joined forces to collaborate on an indoor installation for Olukai Shoes’ #anywherealoha campaign. Kamea Hadar traveled from the islands to Tristan Eaton’s homebase, Los Angeles, to join him in painting the mural entitled Pele, Maila, Hina. Steeped with symbolism from Hawaii, the piece blended Hadar’s portraiture with Eaton’s signatures patchwork style. Openings: “20 Years Under the Influence of Juxtapoz” @ LAMAG

Last weekend in Los Angeles, alongside Robert Williams’ amazing new exhibition (covered), a group show celebrating 20 years of Juxtapoz also opened to the public. Curated by Andrew Hosner from Thinkspace and Gary Pressman from Copro Gallery, the showing featured artists, emerging and established, who have graced the pages of the trailblazing magazine. POW! WOW! ’15 / Streets: Tristan & Matt Eaton

Working in the same location as last year (covered), Tristan Eaton created a new mural for POW! WOW! Hawaii (more coverage here) that somehow seemed to one up the previous one. Painting with his brother Matt Eaton, the Los Angeles-based artist conjured up a striking image of a samurai astride a horse, put together with his signature patchwork technique. Last night, POW! WOW! Hawaii kicked things off with a group show curated by Thinkspace at the Honolulu Museum Of Art School (111 Victoria Street). Entitled Exploring The New Contemporary Movement, the exhibition featured an impressive and diverse roster or artists, each contributing a 12 x 12″ piece. Basel Week Miami ’14 / Recap: Library Street Collective Group Show

While in town for Basel Week Miami, one of the exhibitions we enjoyed the most was put on by the Library Street Collective near Wynwood Walls. Streets: Sea Walls: Murals for Oceans – Mexico Expedition

A couple of weeks ago Pangeaseed.org wrapped up another praiseworthy project on the island of Isla Mujeres, Mexico – Sea Walls: Murals for Oceans – Mexico Expedition. For this event that took place from July 20-28, they invited a group of international artists to help raise awareness for the conservation of the ocean.  Similar to what they did with POW! WOW! Hawaii earlier this year (covered), 1xRun.com released a series of limited edition prints along with this event, with 100% of the proceeds going towards funding the programme. Streets: World Roundup (Jul 21 – Aug 3)

Leading things off on this edition of our Streets: World Roundup is this new mural from Vhils (via Hookedblog) for the Phytology Project. The wall is situated on a side street just off Bethnal Green Road (the station end) in the Bethnal Green Nature Reserve and is part of a series of year-long artist commissions taking place in the reserve. POW! WOW! recently completed another exciting project in their hometown of Honolulu. A few months after wrapping up another successful edition of POW! WOW! Hawaii (covered), they teamed up with Versace in order to create a large scale mural to celebrate the opening of their new flagship store. Located on one of the most prominent streets of the city, this wall was painted by Tristan Eaton who was invited by the curator Jasper Wong.
