Openings: Yoskay Yamamoto – “Familiar Strangers” @ Lebasse Projects

This past Saturday saw the opening of Yoskay Yamamoto’s (featured) exhibition “Familiar Strangers”. It is the third solo show by the artist at LeBasse Projects and features a diverse range of work, including paintings on panel and canvas, sculptures made of cast resin and metal, and hand carved wood sculptures. The well-attended opening included artist friends Audrey Kawasaki, Luke Chueh, Edwin Ushiro, Nate Frizzell, and Bumblebee. More after the jump…

AM recently visited with Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) at his Los Angeles studio. Taking time out of his marathon work sessions, he gave us a sneak preview into his coming show “Familiar Strangers” (teased) at LeBasse Projects which opens June 12th. One of the shows we are really looking forward to next month is Yoskay Yamamoto’s (featured) return to LeBasse Projects. Preview: “WE HEART WOOD Jibibuts Custom Show” @ Munky King

The “WE HEART WOOD” customs show opens tonight, April 8th, at Munky King in Melrose with dynamic duo Noferin inviting 30 of their artists friends to customize their latest blind box mini wood toys – Jibibuts. Not all artists have what it takes to paint on 3D surfaces, but masters of the art like Jeremiah Ketner, Doktor A, Dan May, Yoskay Yamamoto, and Stella Im Hultberg make it look easy with an awesome collection little works of art. Openings: LeBasse Projects San Francisco Group Exhibition

AM recently swung by San Fran’s Japantown to check out the opening of LeBasse Projects weekend pop up gallery. The four day show highlights several members of LeBasse’s roster, artists like Yoskay Yamamoto (featured), Nate Frizell (featured) and Edwin Ushiro (interviewed) were all on hand to celebrate the opening. Additionally, Beau stepped up his game with a couple curve balls for SF residents, debuting some new pieces by internationally renowned artists Herakut (interviewed), Seonna Hong and Alexandros Vasmoulakis. Preview: Showcase Series: San Francisco Group Exhibiton for LeBasse Projects

You may remember us posting some photos from Melissa Haslam’s studio a while back.  If you recall, the pieces seen were for the LeBasse Projects SF showcase pop-up show (opening tomorrow) including some gallery stalwarts along with Haslam like Yoskay Yamamoto (featured), Edwin Ushiro (interviewed), Andrew Hem (interviewed), Alexandros Vasmoulakis, Nate Frizzell (featured) along with some interesting additions – Herakut (interviewed) and Seonna Hong! Openings: Yoskay Yamamoto – “Tell Me A Story” @ LeBasse Projects

Opening in the project room at LeBasse Projects along with Yoshitaka Amano’s show was an installation from Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed). Entitled “Tell Me A Story”, the hanging sculptures were reminiscent of the piece from his solo show last May. Opening tonight in the main gallery space of LeBasse Projects is “Deva Loka Los Angeles”, a new body of work from Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano. For anime fans out there, you may recognize his work from Vampire Hunter D and for the video game aficionados, you must know of his character designs for Final Fantasy.
